I took a small group down a specially planned route to Swanage on Sunday. Went to see the 'Tornado' steam engine which was visiting for the w/e.
There is also an excellent chippie. I tried a teeny nibble of their famous fish and was completely unimpressed. First bit of sea-food to pass my lips for 40 yrs and the fourth ever !
Chips, pie, engine, sea air and ride were great though.

You don't eat seared tuna with Oriental style white rice fried in sesame seed oil. Bass/bream/lemon sole baked/grilled and then covered in a lemon butter and herb sauce.

Baked trout and chips.....with some beers.

Oh Ba...fish is wonderful !

I have two farmed trout for tonight. I will buy some chips.

Bliss !

Off to Cornwall tomorrow and fish is my main aim, apart from a return trip to Heligan.

Enjoy Cornwall Mel, I need to have a look again. I particularly like the Helford river, swimming is brilliant on the east side at slack water. Avoid the spring ebb tide, or you'll be yelling for a lifeboat. If you're looking for a pub where only the locals go, there is a tiny one on Frenchman's creek, half of it on stilts in the river - only a lane with passing points in the woods was the way to get there, best to check that it has survived the recession.

Glad you like Swanage Ba, we have a nest there, our grandkids love it, particularly at Studland south beach when out of season, but even the square on the west side of the Mowlem has some seaside quaintness and sufficient pubs to keep you interested - very little musac, and the one arm bandit arcade is very easily avoided.

Our 42nd wedding anni today, Plaice and load of home grown berry fruit and veg is on the menu. The raspberries and B.currants to be washed down with that bargain 2009 Cote de Nuits village from Marks, that is now singing. . . . such a bargain. To celebrate, we bought ourselves an olive tree for swanage. . . . . .

Brilliant year, and weather so far for home grown.

G. you sound so much more your ole self today :) * Welsh lake trout and malt beer - good stuff.

* I'd prefer new potatoes with lashings of butter and pepper and a pinch of - But that's me.

Yep, love it all along that coast. Had morning coffee at Compton Abbas airfield after going up the dreaded zig-zag. It's the right distance for a one-day out and back.
Cotswolds next Sunday.

Have a great evening Mr & Mrs D.

You can't beat the English riviera with this weather running, and the Cotswolds or parts of the Gower peninsular come a good second, south of Birmingham, it's been good for many weeks. You're using your retirement well, Mr Ba. Enjoy.

P.S. If you meant the Ferryboat Inn, it is still Hayle and Hearty.

P.S - The Ferryboat Inn is on the Helford River, near the estuary, looking east, you may remember seeing coastal vessels leaving Falmouth , and you climb steps up the river bank to get into the bar; You can still get a tiny ferry there to the west side.....saves riding all the way around. The Frenchmans creek watering hole is much more obscure, there were some Cornish wines there as well as a great pint of yeasty & creamy malty nectar, can't remember the brewery, lots of micro brewers about Cornwall it seems.

Thanks for the link Ba, cheers for that. The web is a wonderful thing, keeps you up-to-date, keeps you informed.

Enjoy the rest of the week - Sunshine in the south, all through to the week-end I believe.

BTW, glad you saw the Tornado. There has also been a Flying scotsman class, or very similar design, Castle class ?? Lying in a siding just up from the station all winter having its boilers cleaned and de-scaled, fire box as well. In the Spring it was along side the old track turn-table, just after the humpback bridge - If got up to the maintenance sheds, and the steam coal bunkers and water bowser, you'll know where I'm talking about.

We were on the northern edge of the Norfolk Broads a couple of weeks back, lovely area for boating and cycling. Visited Cromer and sampled their local crab, wow, full of flavour and delicious, ate a little too much tho, gave myself an iffy tum....

So many great places to visit in the UK, we're on the west coast of Scotland in a couple of weeks, planning on doing a spot of Island hopping and visiting some remote beaches, including this one-

Might do a round of sea fishing whilst I'm up there, catch something for supper hopefully.

Forgot to mention, dressed crab and Prosecco are wonderfully harmonious.
