As a collector of Wolverhampton football memorabilia I have a few menu`s from the 1950`s but one I just bought has the wines mentioned too.

Relating to that 1945 Pol Roger vintage & a speculative walk down memory lane....

The Champagne crop grown during the end of the war (ww11), Good vintages in the post War years they say. I wonder if the growers were expecting to be celebrating in the November. Harry S Truman (April 45) had his generals reserve a few cases, en premeur Churchill's favourite was known to be Pol Roger - he appears to have had a special cuvee produced, which still exists today. At the beginning of the 50's, rationing still existed, and you couldn't easily get a fresh egg, unless you had hens in the garden, but by the time we get to 1956, well now, the '27 Port is wheeled out, is that a good vintage GK. You know your recent Port wines.

Glory years for Wolves, the directors were certainly living-it-up. Was this a golden era for your club GK ?

Hi, back in the late 40`s upto 1960 Wolves were the team who started floodlit matches against the best teams in Europe.
Only Man Utd I would say might have been more successful, I once did a chart on a point scale etc which had Man U followed closely by Wolves for all the 1950 seasons.

Google Major Buckley as he was the manager who introduced eating some strange foods back then.
