Winemaker and winery: Peter Hurlstone, Montana

Grape variety: 90% Pinot Grigio and 10% Gewurztraminer.

Region: Marlborough (Awatere Valley) and Waipara (Camshorn Vineyard).

Viticulture/Vinification: Fruit for this wine was sourced from two of its key South Islands regions. The vines are relatively young (four years average). Following machine harvesting, the fruit was de-stemmed and gently crushed prior to pressing. Following pressing the juice was cooled and settled overnight. Racking and fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel fermenters. Post fermentation the wine was left on light lees for two months to increase mouth feel and texture.

– major stores.

The Gewurz comes forward on the nose and really confused me because I was expecting the usual neutral PG nose. Sweetish, along the lines of Alsace. It seems more like a 50/50 split of grapes.
