100% Syrah. Average vine age 30 years, planted on steep slopes, mainly south-facing, on a multitude of terraces at 140-250m. Soil is granite and rock with shallow top-soil. 5,500 vines/ha with gobelet pruning. Hand-harvested with yield of 37hl/ha. No pressing, but 100% destemmed. Macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The first maceration lasts 4-5 days at 5°C, the 2nd 10 days at 28-31°C. The final maceration is 5 days for extraction of the fruit with pumping and pigeage. Selected yeasts are used for the malolactic fermentation. Stored in stainless steel tanks with no barrel ageing. No fining but light filtration before bottling.
Sweetly fruity nose. Some farmyard and lovely fresh, juicy fruit. Good.
Alc 12.8%, TA 3.50g/l, pH 3.60, RS 1.2g/l.
