Made for Tesco by Vaucher Père et Fils. Grapes hand picked and partially de-stemmed (75%).Macerated cold for 2-3 days before fermenting begins. The temperature is carefully controlled during fermentation, and every day there is one pumping-over and the cap is punched down twice. The wine is then matured in oak barrels for 10-12 months. Nuits St Georges is the second largest appellation in the Cote de Nuits -the largest is Gevrey Chambertin- but such is its fame that the northern half of the Côte d'Or has borrowed its name. The soil is a mixture of clay and gravel on a limestone base which combined with the knowledge and expertise of wine makers at Vaucher produce these powerful and elegant wines.
Fragrantly oaky nose and very oaky taste. The tannins are grainy and at the moment it’s not knitted together. Bone dry and hasn’t yet started to be good. I’d be disappointed if I’d shelled out £16 for this. 13%

Yes, I'm tired of over oaky wines. The oak should be there for support, when it dominates the fruit, you know that the pinot fruit was under ripe, or watery.

There is another Nuits-St-Georges 2004 Offer in some larger Tesco stores at the mo.
This one on offer was bottled by Louis Josse - never heard of him, and there is no grower or domaine or maker who assembled the parcells of grapes from the region, stated on the swirly label design ?
This wine was purported to be £18.99 at one time or another and is now £9.99. 2004 was a 7 out of 10 in Nuits and a 6 in the southern half of the Cote d'Or ' for Beaune. The label says it should be drunk from 3 years of purchase, but never tells you the release date ....bah.

Half decent NSG 1er cru at say £21 / £23 per bottle should go for 12 or 13 years, at 6 to 8 years the other flavours you are looking for, start to develop.

For NSG at a tenner, its worth a punt at the price, you may always return it, if it is poor and you know what NSG should taste like !
