Made for Tesco by Cave de Turckheim. 10.3 grams/litre residual sugar. Grapes are de stemmed and crushed in pneumatic presses straight away to retain freshness and fruit quality and fermented with natural and cultivated yeasts at relatively low temperature for about 3 weeks. The wine then spends some time on its fine lees to add complexity and depth and then finally decanted and bottled after 8-9 months. Pinot Gris (aka Pinot Grigio) is an underrated variety out of Alsace. It combines the spicy flavours of Gewurztraminer with the firm back bone of acidity found in Riesling, giving a wine that ages well. Young Pinot Gris is reminiscent of peaches and apricots, with a hint of smoke, developing biscuity, buttery flavours with age. Rich, spicy, waxy aroma. Fat and off dry. The alcohol’s on the warm side, but the flavour is full. Very, very tasty, but I’d like a touch more acidity. Of its type. 13% (131 stores) 27/06/08
