Colchagua Valley
Made for Tesco by Vina Ventisquero, from 50% Merlot 50% Syrah. One year of ageing, two months in bottle. Founded in 1998 by Gonzalo Vial, owner of Chile's leading fresh food producer, Agrosuper, the winery is one of the most modern in Chile yet manages to retain a “boutique” and innovative outlook. Despite the size of the vineyard and enterprise, Vina Ventisquero uses detailed production methods, including hand harvesting and environmentally sensitive land management practices. Kuyen is the name given to sand banks often found in Colchagua valley close to the river (river banks).

Dark, plummy fruit, with some mint on the nose and the palate. Reasonable wine, and the price is about right. 13.5%
