Two of the Loire's big guns. Both 2006.

Vacheron Sancerre

Dry, citrus, good acidity but little or no minerality...£13 is a joke.

Chatelain PF

Dry..blah blah citrus blah blah no minerality..£10 blah blah joke

I am beginning to think that it's best to completely ignore Sancerre and Pouilly Fume and find the best French sb's you can from outside and stick with them.

La Grille..Jardin Bourgeois 2006 £7 Waitrose is a very good Sancerre mimic
Domaine Villargeau CdeG £6.75 Wine Society is an excellent PF mimic

Why pay more ?

Thanks to Mel for maintaining a great site and Happy Christmas and a drunken New Year to all.

Where did you get these two disappointments from?

Thanks for other comments and it's a pleasure.

Both from Waitrose.

I have a Josmeyer Alsace Pinot Gris 2005. It's quite expensive at around £13 and I don't want to waste it. Is it best kept for a few years or if not what food would be a good match.

I know very little about Alsace wine...basic gewurztraminers aside.
