The smell alone is worth 50pmore than the Villa Maria Riesling. A great dry petrol and lime smell. Touch of fizz. Bone dry with very attractive acidity and texture. One of the best at this price.

Bear in mind that Thresher have it at £7.99 (7.99 x 2/3 = £5.33)

Do you prefer the Leasingham Magnus to the Tim Adams ?

HAve only had the Tim Adams once and don't remember it as being a lot better than the Leasingham. The Leasingham keeps cropping up and it's very convenient to get locally, so it's become a favourite.

Leasingham Magnus 2005..Tim Adams 2005 and Tesco Finest Great Southern 2003 are my 3 all time favourite rieslings.

Sadly, Tesco Finest Tinglup, despite being made by the same producer as the Great Southern is a very different wine...quite NZ like.

Any views on Chilean riesling.

Generally speaking is it like Aussie riesling or sweeter and fuller bodied like NZ.

Or is more like Alsace..it can't be like German as the alcohol is way too high

I've never had any Chilean Riesling at all, that I can remember.

Cono Sur Vision do one at Majestic - haven't tried it.

Trio have it mixed in with Chard and Pg, so they obviously grow it.

Sorry, can't help

Tesco & Waitrose now stock the Cono Sur Reserva Riesling, it is currently on offer in both stores.

I've had the CyT Winemaker's Selection Riesling. It was interesting, pretty complex but a bit high in alcohol. Lots going on but not totally convincing IMO.

Must say I don't rate most of the cheaper Oz ones I've had. Leasingham in particular I don't like much. They just seem a bit simple and heavy-handed in comparison to the wonderful German ones. Love Alsace too, but it's hard to get good ones at a reasonable price, of course.

The Polish Hill is on my wines to try list.

Also on there are

The Crossings NZ Sauvignon Blanc
Sancerre Roc L'Abbaye
The Ned NZ Sb

The Ned is on offer so I might order a bottle of Polish Hill as part of a mixed case

I got some Cono Sur reserve Pinot for £5 from Tesco....very nice indeed.

Tried the O'Leary in 2006

O'Leary Walker Polish Hill River Riesling 2006 Waitrose 9.49

Some sweet, light riesling character. Not typically Australian. hint of fizz. Bone dry, almost astringent. Grapefruit juice finish.

12/10/2006

Also, for interest, I tried the 2007 Cono Sur Pinot at Sainsbury's one day last week and it was nowhere near as good as normal.
