Another Chardonnay that can be obtained with a 25% discount at the moment is this one from Tesco.
Chardonnay from the Limoux appelation. Blanquette de Limoux sparkling chardonnay has been produced for 300 years or more, sometimes mixed with a local grape, but the Limoux appelation for still chardonnay was only granted in 1992/93
If you like chardonnay with very subtle oak, this 2010 vintage could be for you. Dont worry, there is no "ole time" oilyness here. Very subtle oak, nice fruit as well - not overly ripe, just right for the style. These are high vineyards, many above the 400 meter line.
The wine has a lovely balance, green gold in the glass and a nice texture. Typical melon banana and very ripe lemon flavours, with some vanilla oak to lend depth and interest. IMHO, the oak is very well judged.
I think this wine is a jolly good effort; fresh, plenty of lift and better than many Maconaise blanc from the bulk producers on the 2011 vintage.
With the current 25% discount £6.74 - not many stores carry this wine on the shelf. I bought online, because I know that six will keep for a while. Even though there is a little oak, I would drink this over the next 12 - 18 months tops.
Best at 12-13C, too cold from the fridge knocks out many of the flavours, the texture and the vanilla oak in particular.
