Sainsburys - £9.99

Curiously this wine seems immune to inflation – Going back to 2007 it went up from £8.99 to £9.99 and has stayed there. Guess the under £10 price bracket is quite powerful.

So it is either overpriced previously, now very good value or somewhere in the middle.

Still young looking and garnet red. Very stewed red fruit on the nose and not too oaky.
Similar tasting – a lot of fresh red berry, a little heat but not well balanced.

We opened this with to have with a cassoulet, it was ok but needed something more rustic and aged.

Day 2 and the cassoulet has got better – the wine however has done a leftover baguette and gone all hard and dry.
Really unexpected turn for the worse. Even with fatty, herby cassoulet it’s noticeably hard edged.

I think this might be best drunk young in one sitting with a little decanting, not sure if it will age judging by its second day turn...

Somewhere in the middle...
