Disappointed in this one, especially £7 cost. very light, not even medium bodied, thin. Little depth, sweet initially on tongue, drier on mid palate, medium finish. But nothing except its perfumed nose give it any sense of " yes give me more"

Two things:

Firstly, although Blason de Bourgogne is the best selling French brand over £6 in the UK off trade, I've been consistently underwhelmed by their wines

Secondly, £7 isn't enough to spend in Burgundy, on red wine, to get anything worth drinking. This isn't meant to sound snooty, it's just the region and the reason why most of us rarely push the boat out in that direction.

yes true, but i have pushed the boat out with Burgundy on a number of occasions over a number of years. Sadly to do so now is beyond my means. but i cannot hide the disappointment, so i share it. This wine was voted the wine of the week in a recent web site...but there we go.

The same wine from the 2004 vintage has much better credentials.

I would just add that £10+ doesn’t guarantee you a decent Burg in the UK either. I can recall a number of red Burgs from over the years that left me thinking I’d have been better off with three bottles of Cono Sur PN.

hear, hear or even here, here.

Cono Sur gets my vote, and ! would even prefer one bottle of Cono Sur to a bottle of three times the price from Burgundy, on most occasions. However, a 5-10 year old Cono Sur, which I have never tasted (in fact, I doubt many people have, since they haven't been producing it for all that long) may not evolve into the delicate, fragrant, sensual experience that a red Burg would take you to.

I'll give the Cono Sur a miss and finish up my very last bottle of Jackson Estate PN. Then I guess I'll have to wait for my dad to get back from Burgundy with some more drop-dead gorgeous village wine for €9 or €10. No point whatsoever in buying Burgundy under a tenner, indeed, but for me the Chileans (and most NZ attempts too, at fairly Burgundian prices) generally just don't get near what I'm looking for, ie delicacy.

If you want something genuinely close to the charms of a real Burgundy, I suggest Jadot's stunning super-Beaujolais, the Chateau de Jacques, which I believe Waitrose still sell at the silly price of a tenner. You will not be disappointed.
