You'd be hard pushed to find a better NV champagne for £15.99.
On Offer from Waitrose, full retail is twice the price.
This cuvee is made by Carol Duval, I've enjoyed her 1er NV before, but this one is composed of '09 and '10 fruit I think. Polished, pale and almost limpid in the saucer !
A very fine and subtle mousse with a little sherbet to excite you. Lovely honeyed roundness to this wine (not an ugly brute at all) with a sprinkle of hazel nut and floral attibutes. Not a yeasty nose, but nice floral one all the same, and
no sulphur at all. Finishng flavour was delicate, elegant and quite classy.
We drunk this from flapper era engraved champagne saucers, blown and turned in the 30's. I did enjoy moving away from flutes with this wine, the underlying gentle mousse (serene) was most interesting with the sherbet tongue tingle that way. You need a steady hand with these saucers, Not for in-your-face fidgeting drinkers
I think this one could be unique to Waitrose in the UK - well done WR.
