This wine took 24 hours to break out of its rebarbative shell. I shall now be fair to Clos de Gamot 1998 , 12.5% Alc.

I don't know Cahors, the black wines, as they are sometimes known. I thought I had matured the wine long enough for the flavours to evolve.

They did finally appear, as if by some conjured-up magic !
They are all here now, just as I had understood from TNs. The garrique scrub and wild herbs, annis, vanilla and dark damson plum, they were there tonight, and a sweetness to the vanilla and damson has come forward.
Much less hollow now, there is a weedyness in the mouth, not a lot of body from this Auxerrois grape, but the flavours, and way they are compiled, is a different experience.

I still don't understand these Auxerrois wines, but I now appreciate why a few folks will follow a good one. I will not rush to judgement when I next sample a reputable 13 year old cahors wine

cheers
