Jean Claude Fromont.

Fort du Roi is a new line for JCF ? Bought this with double disco in the Tesco Store. Shelf discount and 25% across the board for any 6 wines.

About £6.19 at the till, only one on the shelf that night. One to try, the 1st chablis on the 2011 vintage for me.

On opening from a cool store, the wine is northern French chardonnay, a citrus core, quite racy, not minerally per se', honeyed nose (later from the neck of a cool bottle), quite tangy, no milky leesy attribute.

When the wine opens in the glass, the faults are amplified, there is a green Elder shrub twist. Hmmnn - Too much Pip, skin and stalk from secondary fruit spoils the end flavour.

At full retail price, there are nicer Chablis wines in Tesco, as well as Maj and WR.

Oxidization over night has improved the flavour of this wine. Being a racy white style, I wonder if throwing a clean silver coin in the glass could improve matters

Worth £4.11

Glad the interweb search bought you to the Fountain of all Cheap (but not nasty) chablis knowledge

At the 62% Off clearance price - This is One for the bargain Birds I s'pose - The wine is not a Howler. Serve cold to avoid faults !

Ba, knowing GK, I don't think he wants six (3 may be), he'd rather have a £!5 pound chablis for £7.50.

One can get tired of faults at any price !

The Berberana Reserva '07 at £4.49 is a better deal. The 2006 was good at £5.21 per bottle. The '07 not quite so good - but........you 've to move on.

We have looked at '06, 07 and 08 bargain riojas. I prefered the '06s fruit for reserva time in wood - nevertheless

Even having been unimpressed by several basic Chabs recently, I still could not resist this one at £4.11
Glad I did. Has a little backbone and displays typical flavours. Bottled by Sapin and 12.5%
Once again, the double dip price makes it an automatic...
