Retsina is Hercules's armpits

Ba ...You appear to be in Persia, Troy perhaps ?

Whilst I'm talking about the Peloponese peninsular. Yep, having sailed an 83 Beneteau 36' from Aigina, south west past Hydra and then due south to the tip, passing Monemvasia to starboard.

Wonderful charcoal fired, drift wood baked and grilled sea food of every description - eat it all :D Indeed even Hercules armpit is quite good when very pale amber fresh and served very cool.

You're getting out of the UK, just at the right time. I don't think we shall see too many more balmy evenings. I could be wrong, but I smell the end of a good summer spell, and a return to cyclonic weather.

Lucky you. The weather has been rubbish here for over a month. It makes our hosepipe ban appear ridiculous.

Goose (for when you return). I found this to be similar to th Co-op reserve. Its light, so I think you will like it, but it lacks the intensity of flavours of a fresh SC basic. My SC MSB's are past it now IMO, so I will be drinking these and the last of my Co-op reserves until the 2010's start to appear.

Have (eventually) an '09 but a disappointment. I thought the '08 brilliant and was expecting even more from this. Too sweet, no character, will leave the 2nd. one for a while.

Whilst I thought Bob Campbell's score was fairly generous, I did not find the wine too sweet ? Au Contraire, my taste buds said that VAV 09 avoided the over sweet characteristic of many of these '09 MSBs, and particularly those in the sub £9 - £10 price band.

I thought BC was a tad generous on the tomatoe leaf flavour and fine thread of Passion fruit. The tom leaf was not really evident in August 2010, Mango on the nose, when not open for too long..... BUT..... this being 9 months later than BC's TN though.

No character ? Bottle variance ? I will get to another one soon, and re-access.

Oh well, each to his own - as U say, see what the next bottle holds

No tomato leaf for me either. Definitely not too sweet though. This is no-nonsense MSB without anything but proper flavours, but it is fairly light bodied.

It's funny that Ba loved the '08 but Goose said it put him off trying the '09. I'd be amazed if Goose did not rate this.

Maybe these lighter bodied wines are not your thing, Ba. The Ligny Chablis did not float your boat either.

Having said that, perhaps there is some bottle variance as although there is some agreement, we all have found something different in our experiences. I have 7 bottles left so will try another soon too.

Might be the medicaments. Have a 2nd. '09 Vav and a 2nd. Chablis, will give both a while

medicaments - liste des medicaments generiques ?

Laying that aside .... please be advised

Not too long for the Chablis chateau Ligny good Sir. The fruit is waning a little (not a lot, but there is a maturity that is changing the fresh delicacy of the Ligny flavour) and the pith is gathering a little out of balance weight.

However, judging from your TNs perhaps you may find this interim development to your liking. I believe Ligny was at it's peak when Mel was imbibing, and we were patting ourselves on the back as our bargain 'don't tell anyone' posh house white, with a posh label.

I still have 4 or 5 and now serve a little cooler. BTW - I think everyone should finish their Ligny by Christmas - unless they want a different wine.

You are probably right. Tried another Ligny earlier and there was a little something undesirable on the palate. Will try again tomorrow to see if it clears. I considered this a day two wine before anyway.

I still have another 6 and I did not intend to consume this so quickly so I consider this development disappointing.

I consider this development disappointing Yep it is not desirable. This Chablis was always going to be fragile - at a fiver for heaven's sake, a fiver does not buy laying-up security

The fruit is aging quicker that I thought it would, there is some bottle variance.
However, it is definitely not a calamity. The wine will hold until Christmas. Yet, I am consuming my stock faster than I wanted, because I want the wine to be as close to how it was when I first gave it a star.

Still bloody lovely for a fiver. I will drink all mine by the end of October probably. No point in hanging on to stuff, just move your preferences around, no sweat

Tribs, you have the wine cooler for whites, you are in a better position than any of us for holding frangile stock in a temporary state of non evolution - enjoy the wine over a longer period. You're lucky

By the way - Te Muna SB 2008 does not hold. Best drunk during the course of one evening.

Off to Cardiff MW now. Will buy a couple of bottles of Vavasour 09 if a) it's in stock and b) I don't get blown into the Bristol Channel by the howling wind.

If i'm not back by midnight look for me on the beach Bacchus side.

The Ligny is definitely a day 2+ wine. Lovely on day 2, with lemony hints and that slightly oily mouthfeel. Nothing to worry about.

Had another bottle of this at the weekend. Delicious. The flavour is very similar to the VM Wairau Reserve, but less pungent and with more moderate richness. Thankfully I still have a few of these left.

And again. Bloody lovely, this. It's been coolered, and it doesn't appear to taste any different. Like meeting an old friend you've not seen for a while, but it's like you've never been apart. Shows up the 2010 marlborough vintage. I have enough 2009 stocks that I'm not buying any more 2010 msb. I have not tried any 2011 yet.

You, I and Shez have receptors tailored to this MSB, BA was pretty impressed as well. Mr T, you have acquired your stock with skill and dexterity. I have 3 VAV'09s left in fairly cool conditions.

I may have to take mine, a wee bit earlier than you though.

Looking at our 1st thread, this wine has settled down beautifully. Decanter Gold for sub £10 I believe, and very well deserved. We were on this a long time before decanter followed suit, and for me - I reckon the wine scores pretty high in the next band up

I never bought this. The 2008 was so nondescript that I never bothered. And now, here you all are, banging on about how lovely the 09 is.

I've never liked any of you.
