This is really good for Bordeaux.

Intense lime and a touch of minerals maybe even a hint of alcohol too but nothing off putting

Far better than many a dull Sancerre*

G
* Not as good as a good Sancerre though

Now, how did I know you were going to say that!?

Went to Sainsbury's tasting yesterday. Tried quite a few SBs, with you in mind, obv. Will post notes as soon as possible, but the one that was the most interesting was the

Eaglevlei 2006, which is £6.99 and is from SAF.

This was nothing like Sancerre, but as Sauvignon nut I thought you'd be interested.

It smelt of fresh herbs, but we couldn't decide what, precisely - possibly coriander, or fresh asparagus (not a herb, I know). It was very dry and tangy. For £6.99, it wasn't as wholly enjoyable as a NZ SB. It was nearer to something French, but nowhere near. A strange, strange wine, which I enjoyed. They do a Merlot as well, but that, I thought was nearer to a Pinot Noir and Jilly Goolden thought was nearer to a Pinotage. Nice label. In 360 stores.

Did you try the Premiere Touraine SB?, currently down to £3.99, I think its a Boutinot wine, Sains first line was the '04, I picked up a bottle yesterday to try (05 I think).

No, they weren't showing that, but did have Beau Mayne (good), Mouton Cadet (crap) Reserve St Marc VdP d'Oc (dull), Kiwi Cuvee (not bad), TTD Sancerre (not pure enough for me), TTD P Fume (lovely, fragrant, tangy) in the French SB category.
