Went to Cardiff today. Got 1x SE Life From Stone 2010 £10.95 1x Spy Valley 2010 £10.95 and 1x Henry Pelle Cuvee Beatrice Menetou Salon 2009 £11.99. Tesco are selling the 08 for £13 plus pennies.

They also had the 2009 Wither Hills Rarangi for £12.95 an oaked Bourgeois Sancerre for £44.95.

My first crack at Sancerre. Bloody hell, I love this. You know, it has a hint of that same brightness as the Prehy, Ligny Chablis and the Cordier Macon. All central France, all 2008 vintage. Doesn't quite have the weight and the complexity of the Prehy and Cordier, but I guess that is not what this wine is about.

This has the most minerality of all the above and the most wonderful nose. Balanced well against the typical SB zing, of course less concentrated than NZ. Mrs T said it was lovely. I very nearly ordered another case. £6.61 for this is bargain of the year so far for me.



I saw that Oscar Brilliant Sancerre in Asda at £5 and chuckled to myself. But maybe having paid under £7 for this it could have been genuine after all.

I have got to try that Sains PF now.

You are a lucky chap to have got online promptly with one authorised by Mr G. The wine was OOS when I checked in later on the Monday.

Do you have much experience with quality classic french wines - sorry that sounds incredibly patronising - apologies if you do.

For me - The classic ones have that ethereal yet subtle beauty not found in many other parts of the world, and when they hit the spot, all others seem to be clumsy oafs - Enjoy.

Limestone especially the chalk and flint deposits within

English sparkling wine and Champagne - biscuit ( if you're very lucky )
Chablis - lemon and flint
Macon - apple honey and chalk
Sancerre/Pouilly Fume/Menetou Salon/Coteaux Du Giennois - gooseberry/apple/flint.

I like Pouilly Fume best but it can be dire.

Nothing beats Saint Clair PB 06 - 19

Nothing beats the reliability of it - is a tad more accurate. Vintage '06 at SC was rather special ? - As was '99 Gevrey for the asking price

Sorry, Dunc, I meant the Oh Block 6 and the Bird Block 19. Of the two I prefer the Oh Block 6. Less pungent but the flavour is for me the very essence of sb.

The 19 is so good though that I don't really miss the Oh Block 6. Odd though that Maj alternate between the two. Never keeping both at the same time.

Do get the Sentiers 09....it's gorgeous. Do NOT buy the 08.

My mistake. And yes, the Oh Block 6 '08 put all other MSB's into the shade, Clifford B '08 was a damn fine runner-up. even in a difficult year. The '09's I have, are ready for the Summer.
You drink yours sooner than me. Yes, I have noticed Maj's stocking policy in this regard.

I will call in at Tesco, as I have a few exchanges to make - if they still have Sentiers 09 in stock.

Not at all. No, I've not much experience especially with french whites. I've previously stuck with what I know, which was mainly Vouvray.



It is back in stock now and if you don't want to take 6 you can get it in store for the same price as part of a mixed 6. I love Tesco and Sainsbury's double dips.

When looking into this for you, our Tesco Wine team have confirmed that the website is upto date and we are currently selling the 2006 edition of this wine.

I've passed your comments to the Wine team who have again advised me that we're currently selling the 2006 edition and the vintage refers to the year the wine grapes are grown and harvested. Therefore the wines/grapes vintage is 2006 but the wine itself was bottled in 2008.
