I'm trying to work this vintage out...
There seems to be a generic sweetness that runs through most 2010 MSB I've now tried

Tried a glass of Vav 2010 in tandem with the southbank 2010. There wasn't really that much in it.
I wouldn't agree with Bob in that there's 8pts difference and would also contest goose in saying the southbank is light.
The Vav was just slightly better in my eyes being a little richer and fuller tho not ott

2009 seems to be the superior vintage tho as I recall being more blown away by the previous vintage to this
No blackcurrant or tomato leaf this time round
Might try a covert swap with my mums last bottle of 09 for a bottle of 10 so I can try them side by side

Shez. The Goldwater is the only sub £10 2010 that I would buy again. It's not wonderful but has no obvious faults. The flavour is very much like the basic Saint Clair but lacks a little pungency.

Before you completely write off the 2010 vintage you should try the PB 2010 from Maj. If your local has sold out you should be able to swap with Ba. He has one left I think and will probably swap for a couple of bottles of Blue Nun and a slab of Cadbury's Fruit'n' Nut.

First of 4 more. What a difference a few months makes...or was it me a little out of sorts?
Cracking. Classic, must-have. Ex dark (at 15c now) middle of the road better than your average MSB. A little colder and...............I might be back. Much prefer this to the SC19

Think there might be slight bottle variation as a friend opened a bottle last night having been recommended it by my wife
For some reason it seemed better than the last bottle I had at home last week.
A little hint of blackcurrant at first which soon becomes a quite citrusy note like grapefruit (yellow rather than Florida pink)

Thank gawd for that, Shez & Ba.

I picked up some VAV10 late last night. I need an MSB budget performer.

I bought some '06 Meerlust Stellenbosch merlot, which is dear, but Mel said world class. She never responded to my vintage question, but as luck would have it, Mark set aside the '06 for me - and on checking reference in store, this vintage in Stellenb. got a 9 off Hugh J.
Yeah, I dumped on the Ocado deal. My Maj look after me, and set aside the very last bin end chat. Griviere '01 CB medoc for a treat bargain.

One should not look a gift horse in the mouth

I hope that VAV is coming round, thanks for confirming my suspicion, that it would fall into a drinking window..

It is thought that Maj will take the Oddbins pick of the standing crop, so download your oddies favourites and then check in store with your manager.

Shez, my Maj store are rating Saint Clair Syrah, they say "good now", and brill for laying down later, you may want to ask, if it ever makes the tasting table.

Cheers, enjoy your Mother's Day stuff.

Rather than Florida - or any tropical stone fruit notes.

I'm not sure why Bob Campbell awarded this wine 93 points. There is currant bud at 1st, then grapefruit, and more yellow grapefruit. Very linear, but also less dimensional and less interesting than the '09 and the '07. Some zing, but no pith nor pungency.

The suggestion of sweetness has matured out, but, so may have other things. The wine has a powerful hit of 1st flavour, but then tails off rather promptly. These Sauvignon blancs do change, but we have to assume that the wine has lost something since the very very early days when BC judged it. We did not consume this wine very early, not in the UK (I dont think). Although as Ba has remarked, the wine is more vinus (not spritzy now) and much more together than it was when launched at Majestic.

The new owners at Vavasour or the vintage ? Nothing to cry about - but is it a 93 point, top 4 star MSB ? £6.99 is quite fair though, and cheap versus some mainstream brands......and.... as with the Goldwater '10 offer for similar money. However in my opinion, the wine is some way back from the '09 vintage - although Bob said only One Point less !

Hmmnnn.

I thought this years Vav scored 91 (still a good score)...

....Just checked and yes it did: 91pts

But either way, as dunc says, it doesn't seen to be up there with the 2009

You're right Shez

3 points behind the '09, and pretty significant at the finish.

Yep, parallels with the GP, a tenth of a second behind, and you're not on the podium.

We have hitherto, been spoilt. I have 3 x '09s left, but I don't know how well they will last ?

Now easily deserves 91 points
The sweetness has blown off and a nice tommy leaf note shows through with tropical fruit preventing it seeming vegetal
Maybe that u haven't drunk MSB in a which but this tonight seemed like zeus' nectar!
Delish

Oh goody. Have 2 remaining and have not had any wine (other than cava + flavourings) for 4 weeks.
