Asda sold it for £4. Closest thing to sherbet i've ever come across.

Lemon sherbet.

I only bought one.

Yeah, but those guzzlers just pour it down, the 1st flavour was Ok - just, well a bit sugary if I remember . And that is all you need, anyway, the damn thing would be chilled to buggery.

I bought none

No seriously, I'll try the '10 if you are allowed to buy one at the pair price ?

[quote="Goosegogs] The twist is custard when lightly chilled and lemon grass when cold.

18 months ago I would have dismissed that as absolute ****. Rings quite true however, even from across the water. Cellar heading towards 13c since bottoming out at 10.1
The first G was at cellar temp and it was just about acceptable at that. The last at maybe 7c. Yep, this is nice.

Happy Guiness Day folks !

so I'm after a few bottles of 2010 MSB budget guzzlers for Mrs Shez and friends to consume over the next couple of months.

Is this currently the stuff to go for ?
She loved the Vav 09 so would get some Vav 10 but it's not ccurrently on offer at Maj

Southbank is fine, with Brancott and Fairhall Cliffs on offer as well. Tapiwey and Taniwha at Big T on offer.

Happy Guiness Day to you.

Shez, this is tricky right now, there are no MSB offers for wines that will get near VAV 09.

So.......

These are wot I would buy during the interim

1) Macon Villages Les Pierres Blanches '09 - 6.49 each for multi buy
2) * Lindauer Special Reserve NV £7.99 each for multi buy
3) Fairleigh Estate - must be '09 £7.99 for multi buy.

I rated the Fairleigh '07 ('09 would be similar, similar vintage, softer though in character)

There is nothing "zippy wow - wow" out there just now for £6.99.

* Fiz is fun for such a good glugger - drink less of it may be

hi Mr D

yeah, was gonna throw a couple of Lindauer SR in the mix. was looking for a few MSBs to go with
might treat myself to a CR Te Muna or 2 perhaps...

funny, I had read last year that 2010 was meant to have been a great vintage for Marlborough so its all a bit surprising how we haven't been blown away by this year's offerings.
Some over sweetness and some of Goose's hated Lemon grass seeming all too common it seems....

Understood:

Happy Red Nose Day folks

Returning to affordable MSB - vintage 2010

Of the sub £10 MSBs available to us in the UK this year, an analysis based on Bob Campbell's rating reveals the following 90 Club plus wines supplied by Majestic, WHEN on offer.

91 points - Vavasour Marlborough NZ Sauvignon Blanc 2010 £7.99 A suggestion of sweetness knocked it off my faves, but nevertheless, still exceptional value.

91 points - Villa Maria Reserve Wairau Valley Marlborough NZ Sauvignon Blanc 2010 £9.99 on offer for a short period, and an Exotic and rich MSB, that I liked a lot, but not as much as the 2009 which I also bought for the same bargain price :) .

As usual .....I failed to capitalise on the offers. But, have 6 VM Wairau in stock....., have drunk 3 VAV '10,...... have 3 of the exceptional 94 point VAV '09 saved for the Summer.

Bob seems to have been pretty tight on his 2010 scores in general.
A lot of 83 and 84 pt wines about in this price range

Oddbins have the Dashwood going for ~6.75 when bought in a 6
Bob seems to say its a bit soft but good value for its price range

In support of Oddbins (they are in big trouble today) creditors are being asked to accept 21p in the pound - restructuring the business to Town centre shops is the only rescue plan on the table and HMRC are owed £8 million - reported on R4 this morning.

Oddbins have a future, as long as they can get back to that affordable, yet quality niche that they occupied many moons ago.

In support of Oddbins, if you were quick and near a town centre shop at Christmas, thru to New Year.

You could have scored:
Villa Maria Reserve Clifford Bay MSB 2009 / 2010 for £9.99 a bloody good price for a damn fine MSB wine. Shez - the Clifford Bay '10 scored a 93 for a sancerre style which is a class act in my book.

I'm sorry I'm not near a bigger Oddbins

yeah, I'm down to 2 more clifford bays from the armful I grabbed at christmas.
Haven't actually drunk much of it myself, more been Mrs Shez and friends that have got to enjoy it but I've had a sample each time and think it might benefit from being left a little while before I open the next one (hence the quest to find some earlier drinking cheapos)

Sorry I've not been about much. Extremely busy at mo, but as talking about MSB couldn't help but chip in

Bobs MSB 2010 scores descending

Astrolabes at the top. Silly money over here.

SC PB 19 and Vav score well and non-basic VMs

A few I 've seen around but not sure where do fairly well

Lawson Dry Hills, Nautilus and Vidal - 87, 88, 87.

Of those tried here, Southbank is good value and there is not much wrong with it. Teeny lemon grass, but good intensity. The Goldwater has wonderful flavour, but on the light side and must be opened 24hrs earlier.

VM Reserve is a rich beast, not for the misses and her friends.

Of cheapies not tried, Wild Rock is on offer in WR and Sacred hill in Sains. Worth a try?

There's only one person I know who has taken any Morton Estate MSB, and we are still waiting for a tasting note. Gets a 90 from Bob and is available for around a tenner.

Hurray ! Vav 2010 is now back down to 6.99 at Maj as of today

Guess it's a no brainer to pick this up for a quid more than the Southbank if we are to go by Bob's scores for the 2 wines
I'll look to snaffle a case when I get a chance
