No PB at MW...send me some

The PB wines appear to be either very popular or in short supply. Speak to your local manager. They may be able to source some from you. I had been in my local store several times asking if they had any PB. Just before christmas although they said no, they approached me a little later while I was browsing and informed me they had managed to source a case. Top quality CS from MW.

Would love to speak to him but the disco music is back. 3 or 4 tiny krap speakers playing local krap radio in a warehouse with nil accoustics and at rediculous volume. Awful. If ever I collect, I have to wait outside 'til it's ready.

I think the PB 06 2009 is the nicest wine in the world. Just edging out the PB 10 2010.

Don't argue.

I have spoken.

Oh yes

I presume you mean PB19 '10.

Never tried the Block 6 09 so can't really comment. BC gave the PB19 '10 a 93 and the PB6 '09 a 90 so he disagrees. He's been wrong before though and there will be a subjective margin.

I am keen to try more of the PB3 (43 Degrees) as I really enjoyed the single '08 bottle I had. Bob gave the '09 of this a 92 against 86 for the '08.

More MSB chat;

I had a bottle of the Co-op Estate Reserve over the weekend. It'd had it. I did buy a few bottles more recently that may not have been stored too well so hopefully the ones kept in the cooler are still ok. However they are mixed up so it'll be pot luck whenever I open one.

Also, I may have made a bit of a boob on the Goldwater  . I revisited after it had been open a couple of days and found a completely different wine. The nose was similar to the PB19, really wonderful. It's bone dry and although the flavours are more subdued than other notables, the pithy grapefruit had subsided and delicious passion fruit was evident. A little pith remained, but not much more than in the PB19. Light, delicate and elegant it's well worth a try, even though it is a £1 more expensive now.

Finally, I notice we are still waiting for a TN for the Morton Estate from GK

Hmmmm.

Not sure what to do now.

Good MSB should open up straight away and not a fortnight later after a cruise around someone's fridge.

I will buy some though. Just not so many. Not sure what to buy with it. No Pioneer Block and the new Villa Maria Wairau Reserve has a bit of lemon grass according to Bob so that's out too and the Bouffants Sancerre is sold out.

There was definitely some 09 VM Wairau Reserve at my store. I know as I snaffled a couple. Was a bit rich for me but has ageing potential. Surely they must be able to get some PB.

As it's not my 60th I decided to treat myself to a bottle of SC PB 19 2010. I tasted it at all manner of temps and found it to be at it's most wonderful when opened straight from my unheated spare room ( my celler ) and when very cold. So, about 10 degrees and 2. In between the nose and palate fade a little.....quite a bit at times.

At 2 degrees it's surprisingly pungent and absolutely gorgeous.

Buy one Ba, buy one.

You'll never settle for less.

Although Goldwater is quite nice, it's not in the same league.

For you my boy...? Shall see what we can do. Fancied the Riesling and PG as well but they're only in 6 s for some reason.

E & O E.

Day 1... ex cellar at 14°. Massive nose, thick, oily not a pleasure.
Day 2... 8-10° hugely flavoursome but still too much for my simple tastes.
Day 3...drat, it won't freeze, but it's very cold. Still massive nose direct from bottle. (Obiter Dictum) Imposing bottle, large punt, strange label and nice little paper seals.
If Gos can drink a bottle of this, then I have been out-Bacchused. Not quite knife & fork but definitely teaspoon. They forgot to take the fruit out of the peat.

Oh dear

:?

The nose and flavour sound right but the texture all wrong. I've had 8 bottles in total and none were in any way heavy or oily. In fact, i'm always surprised at how light the expensive Saint Clair wines are.

Hope the 2nd bottle is better.

 Bacchus, if you think this is heavy get a bottle of the Villa Maria Wairau Reserve, that sorts out the men from the boys.

Indeed. I love the deep concentrated flavour of the VM WR so much that I wrote to The Institute of Masters of Wine.

They summoned me to their London HQ and made me drink a half bottle without food. So I did.

Three of them fainted....the others were so impressed that they gave me official MofW status. I have a certificate signed by Jancis Robinson, Oz Clarke and Patsy from Ab Fab

On Monday I start my new job in charge of the Blossom Hill display at the Taibach branch of Mothercare.
