It should have 3 things, I think. Fresh acidity, very smooth, almost undetectable tannin, and fragrance. At £8 you probably won't get much, other than a light fruity smell. What about trying one of these. I'd start with the first, and work up to the second, if you think you like the style!
Chorey les Beaune 2004 Dom Pascal Maillard Waitrose 11.99 Appealing new oak smell, rather saddle like. Also, lovely saddle flavour in the mouth. A wine to linger over. Very inviting. 19/10/2006
Beaune 1er Cru, Clos des Mouches 2003, Joseph Drouhin Waitrose 35.00 Perfumed, almost like greenhouse tomatoes. Full body, tongue-coating, rich and delicious. 19/10/2006
