Green peppery nose with some tinned asparagus.  Asparagus taste with lemon acidity and tinned asparagus on the finish.  Sorry to be quite so culinary

If we accept that blackcurrant leaf is the classic Marlborough flavour and asparagus the classic flavour for South Africa then one thing SA has over NZ is that a very high percentage of SA'n sb priced betweeb £5 and £8 is correct in terms of it's flavour. Obviously the more you pay ( in most cases ) the less acidic the wines will be but flavour wise SA is nearly always spot on.

NZ however is almost totally devoid of classic wines between £5 and £8.

Especially now that the Estate Reserve at the CoOp has officially been declared ( by me ) as a myth.

If only I liked asparagus on a sb..........

There's also aging to consider.

NZ SB is mostly produced in a style to be consumed young and fresh. I find NZ SB that has a bit of bottle age (at least eighteen months) begins to develop the asparagus flavours, poor examples go all ‘sherbety’.

SA SB is a bit more risqué and not so predictable.
