No, Dunc, not for me the 09 Vavasour. That said, I wouldn't have thought the 08 to be your thing. Maybe the 08 had just evolved and the 09 could be much nicer.
Mr G, I've not got the Vav'08 at home, only tried on other premises - So not judged in depth or character in my own lair You have a preference for fuller body with restrained flavour wheras I want lightweight but pungent wines. ( with no tarty bits )
Too simple - I have mood swings - occasionally I'd like to select one that has an ethereal lightness, and nostril widening pungency - the pith and the acidity must be in balance though U've broadenned my horizons for these NZ SBsThat's what makes the JE 07 such a rarity. It had both weight and pungency in equal measure. Enough to satisy all of us. Plus - Marvelous quality, always a delight, such balance and poise - A revelation when you told me about it.
One overall preference .....
balance - lots of nuances, Good SB will delight and refresh me . Any of the principal elements out of kilter and the sauvignon blanc wine can fail
There are now quite a few well made NZ ones - so finding the benchmark ones in various styles, that satisfy connoisseurs at the affordable level is a long search.
And they change their faces - particularly in the six months after release
Enough of this examination
Well.... till next time
