I really did think that this chenin was a little weird. Indeed it was very weird 'cos the label surruptitiously changed itself to read "sauvignon".
That didn't help, it's still weird. Somewhere between the two I suppose. A little metallic undertone carrying smokey fruits and a hearty kick. Something hides in here, can't put my finger on it though. Nice enough but I wish that it had a different name. Not for the faint-hearted.

Is it hand picked, or whatever they call it, or am I confusing it with something else.

Questions, questions.
Not the "hand picked", that is one of KF's. I thought it was CB (all the bottles are very much alike) and it was therefore in a CB "slot". I only noticed when I went for a second glass that it was in fact Sauv. Blanc.

I'm never disappointed by Chenin.

I always leave them on the shelf where they belong.

Sigh .....

why so many negatives, goosegogs ???

It seems every post of yours is negative about some wine or, as here, and entire variety.

Chenin can make wonderful wines, it is such a flexiible grape producing so many styles.

OK, so you don't like it.

My Mum always said, if you can't say something nice, say nothing

Mr P, I've just received a bottle of Babylons Peak Old Vine Chenin '09 via a M&S mixed case, are you familiar with this wine?

Sigh indeed .....

why so many negatives, goosegogs ???

There's a lot of negatives to be found in the wine world

It seems every post of yours is negative about some wine or, as here, and entire variety.

Mel aside, i've probably handed out more stars than the rest of the forum put together. And even when i'm not handing out stars there's still plenty of positive comment in amongst the criticism.

And quite a bit of the criticism, inc the comment you're responding to, is just tongue in cheek

OK, so you don't like it.

I've never had a Chenin that I would buy again. If I ever stumble across one i'll be sure to post something nice about it.

Until then...

The bogstandard SA CB from Tesco is fine And so cheaap), as are many others at many prices. I give you the Van de Merwe (Avery) and Zaltze. In the right mood with a decent CB, I'm in heaven. Lot of shiite out there though. Keep trying G.

No. I despair of M&S invented names and I know there is a hill called Babylons and a few wines which use the name or similar names, first of which was Backsberg with Babylons Toren...

BUT .. ta ra

Platter 2010 shows there is a winery named Babylons Peak and that their 09 CB is awarded 4 stars 'inviting house style, limey fruit, quivering freshness, enough intensity to age a few years. Ex 39 yr old bush vines."

It wasn't in either M&S I have looked looked in in past weeks. Maybe an internet only offer

B, what's with the i pie, thing. Do you like pie? We can't read the speech bubbles. Is it a conversation between you and a pie. If so, you need to get out more.
