    Not much to say about this, OK wine to drink, but seemed unwilling to yield much flavour. Tight with every now and again a hint of spice. (84 pts.)

Unusual for a Oz shiraz to go a bit lame at the end of 4.5 years - don't you think ? It was an oaked wine, was it ? Probably new style upfront winemaking style ? ....Was it overblown when very young ?

I have found-out that new style Chilean Carmierre will loose fruit and interest, and dries-out over that time scale.

I know we were strugging to find words to describe it last night, and most unusually, there was a good large glass worths left undrunk.

I was thinking that maybe a varietal shiraz wasn't such a good idea and that it would have had more interest with a little mourvedre and grenache blended in...

Anyway, thats the last of that bunch... the question now is what to have with tonights roast.. :)

I'm inclined to Cab, but varietal or Bx blend is the question ...

Home-made pizza tonight, I'll be watching the wolves v palace FA cup replay on TV, picked up a few more of the Asahi beers in Morrison this morning along with half a dozen Kingfishers, both on offer for a £1.

I dare say one or two, nicely chilled, will be joining me on the sofa.

No, not so, a Single Varietal is fine... Peter Lehmann The Barrosa shiraz and higher marques get better for many years. The Barrosa at 6 yrs is great. Penfolds, if you move up the money with Shiraz is good for more than a decade. It is the winemaking style that killed evolution in that Heartland cuvee.

Anyway, thats the last of that bunch... the question now is what to have with tonights roast.. :)

With the roast beef, I'd plumb for a dryer, more tannic and structured 2002 or '05 Claret first, or 2nd choice, a well matured new world structured Cab. IMHO - Sweet young new world cab or overblown merlot, is not so good with the roast.

Roast lamb - then French Pinot Noir for me.
Roast Pork - Maybe NZ or SA Pinot noir is worth a go

Lamb & PN? Never!! Has to be claret. God wouldn't have named a 1st growth Mouton otherwise :)

Tonight is chicken and that is ideal background for anything red.

Flowers and Wright !! Wow could do with some class on the field.

I was lucky enough to meet Billy a few times, what a great man !!

Tonight food and some red stuff not sure what though !! :lol:

Might look at something totally off my radar as I need to get fuel tonight and could pop into Tee for a look.
Any suggestions in the next 20 mins ??

They may as well have played in high heels. Dreadful.

By the time the 3rd Palace goal went in I was hoping they would put six past us and cheered every attempt on goal. The club needs a good shakeup.
