Fabulous tangy, lively nose. A little buttery toast. Bright and lively palate, bordering on the sharp. Fresh and with a tiny hint of oak on the finish.

Louis Jadot, Santenay, Clos de Malte 2008 - £144.80
Ripe and fruity, almost tropical, chardonnay on the nose. A little texture from the oak, but there’s plenty of time for that to calm down and integrate. Needs time.

Louis Jadot, Savigny les Beaune, Close des Guettes 2008 - £149.26
Quite spicy, but new, oak on a fruity nose. A little hollow, currently, on the palate and quite oaky. Needs a lot more time, but has everything there. Juicy finish.

Rich, creamy and with obvious oak on the nose. Very perfumed. Oaky and chewy without much beauty at the moment.

Very appealing nose – lime marmalade and zing, with a little toastiness. Chunky oak at the moment. Needs a long time, unless you like chewing your wine. Some liquorice on the finish.

Fruity, tropical but not heavy nose. Fruity palate as well, again leaning towards tropical fruit – perhaps guava? Oaky finish.

Round, heavy and almost honeyed. A load of oak. Nutty and savoury with some warmth. Lasts and lasts.

Savoury, but with lime juice and flowers on the nose. Really tangy and bright. Absolutely delicious. Long, fresh, zingy. Hard to know which is better, this or the Morgeot. Both stunning. *

A little stinky – not quite fresh. Disappointing nose. Warm palate, with some aniseed. Woody finish. First disappointing wine.

Some new oak, some lime, on the nose but not shouting like the Chassagnes. Beautifully alive palate, though. Almost sharp. Begging for food. Good.

Very different nose. Savoury and vegetal, but good. Ripe fruit, a little warmth and liquorice on the finish.

Buttery toast on the nose and some lime. Very appealing nose. Very toasty oak on the palate. Some fresh acidity, but the oak stays. Don’t be tempted to drink this yet.

Dom des Héritiers Louis Jadot, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2008 - £510.87
A bit dumb on the nose. Offers little – perhaps some pear, oddly. Pear on the palate as well. I’m not sure I’d even put this in Burgundy, never mind anything as so exciting as Corton-Charlemagne. Seems to need time.

Perfumed and limey. Juicy, tangy, limey and refreshing. Delicious. Beautiful now. Long and exciting. *

Toasty, buttery oak on the nose, but also with ripe fruit, without being fat. Juicy, zingy and very exciting palate. Omg, as the kids would say. Really beautiful wine. Some oak, but just exactly the right amount. *

Louis Jadot, Montrachet Grand Cru 2008 - £1765.33
Savoury, quite honeyed and spicy nose. Oaky, savoury, macho wine. Lip-smacking stuff. Would be just stunning with food. Beautiful complexity – quite herbal. *

Reds

Ch des Jacques, Dom Louis Jadot, Clos des Rochegrès 2008 - £144.80
Light, fresh, fruity nose that I thought was Pinot, but is in fact Gamay. Really very appealing nose. Juicy, fruity and refreshing. Light and easy.

Ch des Jacques, Dom Louis Jadot, La Moche, Moulin-à-Vent 2008 - £144.80
Spicy, lightly oaky nose with gentle fruit. Very smooth, soft fruity – not bloody and metallic as young Pinot can be. (By all accounts, this is Gamay, which would account for the fruit - thanks D). Woody, composty taste. Young, but not raw.

Spicy, perhaps cardamom, on the nose. Spicy oak, plenty of structure in the mouth. Needs time to smooth out. There’s plenty of flavour, but it needs time for flavours to evolve.

Great cherry Pinot nose – light and fragrant. Delicious even now. Fruity but tempered by spicy oak and gentle tannin. Beautiful balance. *

Quite a minty nose. Very fresh and zingy nose. Furry tannins and juicy, only-just-ripe cherry. Too young to enjoy now.

Herbal nose, perhaps like dill. Furry tannin and juicy acidity. The acidity leads the finish.

Beautiful ripe blackcurrant nose. Dark fruits on the palate. Fresh, lively acidity and some dark spices. Good and begging for food.

Dark fruits and some liquorice on the nose. Good Pinot flavours, Quite plain at the moment. Leave it.

Sweet cherry nose, with a whiff of lemon zest, and some vanilla – very appealing. Fruity and appealing palate – like ripe cherries. Refreshing and attractive. Good.

Very pale. Perfumed and inviting. Very juicy and nicely leathery. Leather rubbed with raw cherries. Lovely. *

Louis Jadot, Pommard Rugiens 1er Cru 2008 - £287.65
Baked cherry aroma. Bitter cherry flavour, with perhaps almond on the finish. Savoury, with some vanilla from the oak. Lovely mouthful.

Less cherry on the nose, more plum. Juicy, quite warm fruit. I might put this in NZ. Sorry, but it’s a little warm.

Louis Jadot, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Les Boudots 1er Cru 2008 - £336.76
Odd smell. Can’t quite put my finger on it. .Eucalyptus, I think. Again, the in mouth, something medicinal. Very interesting. Am very much enjoying it. If it were lunch time I’d take a glass of this. Atypical but interesting.

Minty nose. Juicy, fruity palate. Have used the word “juicy” more than ever before during the Pinot part of this tasting. This is very refreshing and moreish. Lovely. *

Louis Jadot, Chambolle-Musigny, Les Fuees 1er Cru 2008 - £309.97
Very much like undergrowth or warm hay, or maybe toast. Smooth, velvety and gentle. Good.

Herbal and inviting nose. Beautiful taste. All sorts of herbs, chopped on a warm day and perhaps some roasted meat, as well. Heaven. *

New oaky, vanilla nose. Quite full and ripe. Very attractive. Vanilla on the finish. Perfect. *

Vanilla and ripe, ripe cherries. Suddenly the wines have upped their game. Ripe fruit and vanilla on the nose. Fruity, with a hint of liquorice. Needs time. Still far too young to be interesting.

Spicy, oaky, plain chocolate nose. Dark fruits, warm alcohol and pretty massive wine.

Louis Jadot, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2008 - £515.33
Toasty, oaky nose – quite peppery. Peppery taste. Again, juicy and very Pinot.

Louis Jadot, Echézeaux Grand Cru 2008 - £551.51
Warm, bready and very inviting, also some very ripe apricots. Quite bretty in the mouth. Farmyardy and perhaps like cheese rind. Fascinating wine.

Louis Jadot, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 2008 - £912.65
Toasty oak on the nose. A lot of structure and quite hard. For the long term.

Louis Jadot, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru 2008 - £644.80
Very pale. Low on nose – very delicately fragrant. Juicy but woody. Not a great deal of body.

Louis Jadot, Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru 2008 - £805.51
Redcurrant, with a hint of lemon. Nowhere near ready. Nowhere near lovely yet.

Louis Jadot, Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2008 – £1077.83
Simple cranberry fruit on the nose. Delicious creamy, vanilla flavours with the cranberry fruit. Savoury and spicy finish. Good.

A wet wet wet early summer - better conditions in Gevrey and Vosne Romanee says growers

Beaune growers said they had some trouble in north Beaune (Pernand-Vergelesses) end of July to 3rd week of August until the north wind came (a miracle they say, or prayers) and saved the rest of the crop from rot - an honest frenchman in front of his customers - a gent for sure - they spent a long time on their sorting tables for this vintage (table de trie). I wonder how much sorting some of the bulk business, left-over fruit marketeers did ? Not Louis tho - I think his wines are great val for mon.

The rot attach of oidium caused (the "veraison" to be heterogeneous, they said) and slowed down maturity...Therefore some nameless cheapos will be green as h*ll

Gamay stinks of gamay- Mel what's up ?
I have read that his Moulin a Vent matures over many years, so that this Jadot style bojo Gamay almost leaves home.

Your palate is right on the button tho.

Exactly what Chanson said:- Gevrey, Vosne and Chambole escaped the probs. You give tasting notes of *Lovely, *Perfect and *Heaven.

Volnay 1er - Yum as well. Early bird burgundy 2008, are the lovely easy and beautiful ones. Thanks for confirming.
