Chaps,

Just popped into my Local Lidl and bought a bottle of Chateau Mauras Sauternes 2010 reduced to £4.99 from £6.99.
Did a quick google and it seems to have a few good reviews.

Just thought I would mention this in case anyone likes a drop of pudding wine.
Richard

£4.99 is a good price for 500ml bottle
I bought a few at £6.99 because even at that price it's good value
I'll have to go check out lidl tomorrow

Thanks for the tip-off Rich,

I bought a couple at the old price. '2010 is a jolly good vintage for Sauternes at all levels. Will get more soon, if it's still there ! :) What's not to like . . . . . . .

Sadly, I think the allocation was cleared out on my last visit.

4 more lidl stores this weekend and all of the French wines seemed to have been cleared. I don't think they've all been purchased though, it's like they've taken them off the shelves

Logged in and thought I would pop out and see if they had any more.

Good news there was about 15 bottles left so picked up 4 more.
Happy to get some if anyone wants some posting etc. (Still £4.99)

Richard

I'm sure both will be good particularly at that price range
I've had a bottle if the Mauras but didn't take down any notes so can't remember what I thought of it but don't recall being unimpressed

I got sucked in at aldi and bought a couple of bottles of the tokaji 6 putts
2007 vintage on sale this year, last year they stocked the 2008

The 50cl bottle of Ch. Mauras was an exceptional bargain for £7.99. Great size for a pudding wine at lunch (where not everyone has a glass, not sure why not ?) means, More for us . . . .
Lovely fragrant floral and refreshing Barsac style. Balanced acidity and very enjoyable tangerine, touch of mango flavour in there. Very nice after the mains, we served a little cooler than usual, and experienced the spectrum of flavours as the wine warmed. Tangerine, almond marzipan notes at the end, lovely to roll around in the mouth. Vintage 2010 has made a very pure / clean wine here, not gooey, more maple than molasses.

:qofgoodvalue: for me nearly a star, brill QPR.
