I noticed the LR bottles in Sainsburys yesterday.
Was meaning to check to see whether any had been sampled here

you mean chez b? I've got 4 Pinots from last night to re-taste. That makes me sound like a woman of loose morals.

I'm not sure you can be loose of morals with overalls on, and "grecian white" gloss paint up your arm, in a freezing dining room, since windows have to be open while being painted. Is it actually freezing today, it feels like it.

No, been out to the car and it's a balmy 5 degrees in Roverland.

There were a few different LR on sale. From the top of my head (and the Sainsbury website):

McClaren Vale Shiraz
Chardonnay
Clare Valley Riesling
Cotes du Rhone
St Veran
Botrytis Semillion
Provence Rose

think there were a couple more too.
To me, the labels all look a bit cheapy and having been served "Limited Release" offerings from some Aussie producers in the past which were dire, I have a suspicion that its a just poncey way of saying "our base level entry dishwater with a name to make it sound far more impressive than it is"

I for one am very dubious. That said, IIRC the LR Clare Valley Riesling was about 7.99 so on price par with the like of Magnus....

Look forward to your report on tonight's sampling Ba.

(Oh and yes it is pretty cold out there today Mel!)

Dank and Raw. My place is constantly cold at this time of year. Hence the office across the patio. Dont want to heat the whole place at today's energy prices - Massive change. We keep a large log store & log pile at the end of the garden.....time to set Dining room fires occasionally
Mel you have sash windows, Yes ? Same here, no shortage of fresh air in my place, even when the sashs are down. I draw curtains at 16 hundred to keep the cold OUT. I need some Winter sun - completely changes rooms in the front - Give me sun - please.

Shez, now you understand my ability to cellar stuff here.

It is fresh inside my place .......brrrh..... heating bangs in at 18:00 I run a big old Potterton 140k btu jobby - very unfashionable, it gently kettles, and keeps the kitchen frost free during the day !

Limited Release - So limited that you can stock all sainsbury's nationwide - or only pantecon (spelling) branches. Who knows - Ba please say - tonight

Never gonna happen at mine !
Mrs Shez is constantly whinging about the cold - even if I'm walking around in a t-Shirt saying I feel warm she'll be shivering with 2 jumpers on :roll:

Any opportunityfor her to turn the heating on will be taken
and this in a 5yr old town house !


On the upside for you guys, the wine is kept nice and cool...

Sorry I am after 1 or 2 bottles of 96 fizz, I am not that rich !!

No reason but havent had a decent 96 for along time and believe there would be drinking well at present.

Happy to listen to other options though !! must be under £80.00 a bottle.

I'm from N Yorks with grandmother from Norway and rarely feel the cold negatively. It takes a lot to get me in a coat. The killer is staying still working, then it seeps through your bones. Also painting dining room windows in December.

Not sash windows. 1911 house. Arts n Crafts, so nice windows but not exactly up to EU regs on thermo-thingy.

So, it's 6.05, should I finish the painting or give up and have an amontillado with ice.

I could do both, that's because I'm a woman.

And, ref neighbours, I taste the supermarket wine with a panel. We take the wines we like and the leftovers go to the neighbours, so none of you would be jealous.

It's a fair deal because they have hens and we get eggs in return. Everyone's happy although not sure how she'd have felt about the ropey claret last week. She strikes me as an Aus Shiraz/Chard girl.
