Retailer Spar is claiming today that 64% of shoppers are intimidated by the labels on the back of wine bottles..... It is slapping on labels written in "local dialects" – and yes they are as bad as they sound.

The descriptions have been "translated" into eight different local dialects, including geordie, Brummie and scouse.

....in Liverpool you are promised: "A totally boss bottle of Merlot which smells o' blackberry, choccie, a brew and toffees. Juicy and complex like, this bevey is top wi most scran 'specially me ma's scouse. Tellin ye, this is deffo a bevey that will leave youz and youz mates made up over yez Sayers pastie."


Im lost for words.

SPAR's marketing manager certainly knows a huge amount about Merlot :wink: Geeze - top award for customer awareness - seriously tactile !

But moving on, This piece of chit-chat lingo certainly fits a certain character from Bris-Stoll.

I havent come across château puy mouton on my travels before.

I cant find it on the classification list either ??

Have you had inside info on this producer ??
Have they been bought out recently prior to the 06 vintage ??

Please report back your findings if you are going to sample one shortly.

Saint Emilion grand crus have been two a penny in recent decades. Not to be confused with SE Grand Cru classe' which is the real thing as you know. Look in that classification in Saint Emilion. They changed the rules, and let many properties apply for GC, which were then agreed by a panel if they were half decent for 3 years running I believe.

I bought as a risk - Yeah less than 10 quid a bot., because the Americans were buying it and selling at $24-25 dollers a bottle, so I thought, well since US merchants were not clobbered with this bloody HMRC duty and VAT business, and merchants were able to move the wine at $280 dollars a case - It must be half decent.

I should have bought I know the Peymartin at £11.40 when on double doggy, 2nd wine of Gloria, but I was feeling rather mean when I logged in at M&S with 15 minutes to go before the double offer expired

Wish me luck , Richard- I picked as easy one, so all of its faults (and not too many virtues) were not in ones face !
