Signed up yesterday so I can post the odd TN and read others thoughts on wines.

I have had a quick read and most posts seem geared around supermarket or Majestic wines ??

90% of my purchases are from Independant Merchants or directly from the producer.
Is this forum mainly geared around the supermarket ??
I am happy reading about any protenial bargains out there as well.

My main love is French Rhone/Bord Reds and Mosel/Alsace whites.

Just been to a New Zealand offliner which was interesting, especially two old reds from the 80`s.

Will read more than I post though.

Great, You can bring a few wines to the attention of the Forum, that have not had acres of speil attached to their description by marketing morons.

Look forward to it. Particularly your opinion on NZ laying down potential especially two old reds from the 80`s. Pinot Noir was it ? We can talk about left bank as well - Good

Hi, thanks for the warm welcome.

The two NZ reds in question were,

Goldwater 89 Cab-S/Merlot blend which was fantastic !!
A touch of brown on the rim and packed with a lovely deep black berry fruits with a resonable finish.

The second was a 1990 after checking my brief notes which was a
Vidal Cab-S no blend if I recall.
This also showed fairly well for a 20 year old wine and wasnt disappointed but it lacked any length so it fun to try but not one to search out again.

As you can tell TN arent my strong point.

I used to live in Sunningdale, down Dale Lodge Road if you know it ??

Shame, I'm investigating whether Central Otago IS or IS NOT a Holly Grail hype. Load of hype there and prices moving up like mad.
Having said that - Rubbish Sterling and heavy HMCE duty is not helping Cote d'Or lovers one little bit !

Sunningdale and Virginia Water are beautiful places - A lot of traffic though in the last 10 years. Could google Dale Lodge Rd. Millionaires Row is it Richard ?

BTW you can always practise your TN writing here Mel will mark your work, if you ask her ever so nicely.

We do generally discuss supermarket and off licence wines, just because the site started to list the special offers in those, and because that's what I write about.

Also, they're more widely available, so we can have a useful discussion. However, we're always looking for interesting wines and new winos.

Interesting idea. We do talk about trying wines out - currently this can be any day of the week.
But week-ends are when we put our hands into our pockets, or pick from our laying down stocks, or acquire something a bit special, that is planned for a dinner.

Nothing that is forum stuctured.

Hi medmad...you will need the men-in-white-coats if you stay here long. "The whole world is mad except thee and I, and I'm not too sure 'bout thee".

I write a Saturday article in the Glos Echo and Gloucester Citizen, and try to post the articles on the Article section (see top of page) but I generally forget and then have to do a whole batch.

Also do a drive time radio slot at about 5.40 on BBC Radio Gloucestershire on Fridays. You can catch it on Listen Again but it's just a couple of suggestions for the weekend, nothing remarkable.

The usual presenter is away today, so anything could happen.
