My dear Misses wants some Touraine. She likes the fairly concentrated citrussy and ripe Kiwi friut stuff, a 10% dash of muscatel in it, normaly does the trick for her. It wants to be no more than 12.5% (11.5 % would be best)

Yeah, cheers. The problem is that the Price is in Day Glow Orange - But naff all is described about the wine. It could be 1979 and made from boiled trainers !

Price, whilst important is secondary to the flavour and description of the wine !

I agree, afterwards I was hunting high and low to see what it was but there is nowhere on the rest of the Threshers group site with any info. Nothing online anywhere else either. I'll try stopping by my local branches tonight if I get a chance to see whether they have it in there and can find out for ya

Whilst you are there, have a buchious, and see if the Chateau Tullyie (spelling) Cotes de Blaye 2007 white is there....Summer quaffing in the garden....It is on the Wine Rack list.

Also, If I may extend your brief, see if the Chateau Neuf du Pape Clos d'Oratoire 2005/06 is in stock. You can't miss it, a superb label in bright colours, very 1930's William Morris style design - the fuller and more tannic 2005 is prefered for laying down. The voucher makes that one a snip.

No joy last night I'm afraid mate. Was at a Pinot Noir tasting til gone 10pm so Wine Rack and Threshers were closed. Will have another try tonight on way home from work otherwise it won't be til next week as am off to Prague tomorrow morning

No problem. Any worthy Pinot's, presumably a New World tasting ? Any older ones to see if they have evolved in an interesting way, Carneros and all that, and if Cote' D'Or, a significant entrance ticket to buy ?

Anything that performed well above it's reputation.

The Pinot tasting was run by a guy who works at Waitrose so 7 of the 8 lineup come from there.

The line up was as follows (tasted in this order):

Familia Schroder Alpataco PN 2006, Patagonia Argentina

Cono Sur 20 Barrels PN 2007, Casablanca Valley Chile

De Bortoli Yarra Valley PN 2007, Victoria Austrailia (Tesco Finest)

Morgan 12 Clones PN 2006, Santa Lucia Highlands California

Mount Difficulty PN 2007, Central Otago NZ

Graggy Range Te Muna Road PN 2006, Martinborough NZ

Furst Gentgrafenberg PN 2006, Franken Germany

Beaune Teurons Premier Crru 2005 Bouchard Pere & fils, Burgundy


Highlights were the Beuane Teurons, Morgan 12 Clones & Furst (my top 3 in that order and general top 3 for the rest of the group)

Special mention has to go to the Tesco Finest Yarra Valley too. At £14.50, its pretty top end of the finest range in price scale but very very good value for what is a decent PN.

Shezza, you have good taste for dimensional PN.
I have The Chanson Piere & Fils Beaune Teurons 1er in Stock here. I have been drinking the 2002's and last of the 2003's. In stock, are Chapimonts 1er, Bastion 1er and Gre'ves 1er 2005's. The 2005 Teurons was about (£122 for 6 Retail) is not ready and will go to 2016 peaking 'a point 2012 or so. Chanson 1er Beaune's from medium term laying down vintages, climb slowly to the peak and then fall off in 2-3 years, except their Clos de Feves 1er. I have not climbed their tree higher to Corton Vergennes g.cru, but of Chanson's affordable Beaunes, they are full & delightful & ripe in the best years.
Bouchard will be applying similar skills to their cuvee - unless you indicate something esle ....

If you find the 2003 on offer ....It is drying out, right at the end of the length, yet exceptionally ripe entry, so don't accept the wine with discount, unless you plan to drink it with roast poultry. You could even drink the 2003 with Bread & Butter pudding (not too many sultana's in it to undermine tho) - no kidding. The 2004's are lovely now, and may be slightly chilled for Summer quaffing - but drink up the 2004's by latest Easter 2010.
From that list, the half decent B.1er domaines for 2002 are the babies to have just now.

Of your 2nd choice, I'd like to hear more about Morgan 12 Clones - please Bl**dy silly name that, it is not a concoction clone, surely not. If I saw the name - I'd be suspicious !

popped in to Wine Rack on wy home from work tonight. They had 2 bottles of the 2006 CNdP you mentioned. Didn't pick any up as was like a sauna in the shop and no too sure about the storage conditions there (along with the fact I a few CNdP to drink at home anyway so can't justify buying more right now). No sign of the white you mentioned tho.
Did spot VILLA MARIA RESERVE WAIRAU SAUVIGNON BLANC 2007 at £13.49 before the discount. Anyone given this a go ? £8 a bottle with discount might be worth a buy if its reasonable.
I then made another stop at Threshers to see what Tourine they stock for Mrs Dunc. Its the 2007 La Perclaire Tourine. 50% off so now something like £4.49

As for the PN. The 12 Clones retails at £20 I think. It's Morgan's introductory PN and was very nice. Good balance of fruit and oak, velvety soft on the palate. 14% alcohol but didn't feel heavy
