Love several mixes, but haven't had a varietal for ages. Went for the Morgenhof '16 at £11 less 25%

Just too much 'snooker hall' for me. Won't tread that path again. Blended to with some MSB to create an acceptable swig.

What's the definition of 'snooker hall'?
I agree that it's a grape I've struggled with a little.
Of the limited number of SA ones I've tried, they have depended on the oak for character and despite it being a grape that it meant to be known for having a decent streak of acidity, it often seems a little flabby (maybe just bad examples).
I had more success when I was in the Loire a few years back but didn't bring much back outside of the few dessert chenins I purchased at the supermkts.

Ah!....those wonderful youthtime memories of entering a snooker hall. Wood, carpet, baize, un-emptied ashtrays and stewed tea.
