Ba, i'm very sorry that you've wasted your time, and £14 quid. It's a pity that Goose didn't chip in a bit earlier, reading between the lines, he gives a negative for this Mud House bog standard MSB.

I'm expecting a raft of 'good for the money but wouldn't pay full price' reviews

For MSB to be properly pleasurable, "good for the money", but I wouldn't pay . . . . . . is not good enough.Well, I'm getting rather intollerant these days, if they don't make it, they could be £2.99 a bottle, and I still don't want the damn thing.

Take it back when you're next in Maj for other stuff.

£7.50 now inc. 25% off at Maj.

Crisp, zingy, nettles they say...yep, so tiz.

Maturing a little from my last one. If it holds up could be very nice in a few more months.

My neighbour told me I must try this, apparently she was told in Majestic that this is the new Ned!

This could definitely be the new Ned. It has all the right credentials. Mass produced, overpriced, very average example of a NZ SB but out of nowhere is somehow trendy.

Jackson Estate 2013 smells like JE, MrD. I didn't taste it. That GK in not beating me. I did buy 3 bottles @ £9.95 at Waitrose. I am looking forward to them.

Blackcurrant and acorns.....

I just hope the flavour has caught up with the nose. It doesn't always

Oz Clarke in a recent interview said that the owner of Mud House was a wacky guy, and a good laugh, so it's a social media upgrade that's causing a stir.

I will buy a few JE13 when next on offer. I only have the top flagship MSB's in stock just now from SC, VM and CB, and they are saved for wine indulgence evenings / wine afficionados dinner friends, Taylors Pass and Clifford bay '13 top the billing for Autumn evenings. There has been so much naff tat, and the general public keep buying it ? I think the industry now believes that the taste of tat is where they aim to corner the UK market.

For a dinner party, and I've only had the one bottle, this Yealands Estate winemaker's reserve Awatere G2 block 2012 on the Kelly-Washington signature is hard to beat, 5% new french oak - may not suit you, this wine tastes like original (not Stich) JE07 + a tad of french oak. These come up in bin end offers from time to time - if you see this discounted - grab with both arms

For a refreshing starter, I have been drinking the star Lidl white Beaune recently - P de Marcilly hautes-cote de beaune 2011. You would appreciate this wine G. exceptional minerality for the price, with balanced acidity to fresh fruit, don't be put off by the pale gold colour . . . . it is not one of them from the old days.

I would be grateful for any mid priced MSB recommendations (please don't say any from Tesco!). We've struggled to find any that aren't weirdly sweetish recently. Picpoul de Pinet and Provence rose seem to be all we've drunk this summer.

Good sb at under a tenner is hard to find. Possibly because we've all been spoilt by better wines. These are the best that I've had over the last year or so.

CoOp

Explorer's Vineyard MSB 2013 £8.99

Made by Matt Thomson of Saint Clair. Correct flavour of pungent blackcurrant but let down by excessive acidity. Still, if you don't mind the acid then this is a proper example of an old fashioned MSB.

My CoOp has been selling it for £6.99 for the last few months so after 20 or so years it could be end of line for this wine.

Indomita Leyda Valley SB 2013 £7.99 or 8.99

Classy wine with a subtle to begin with but increasingly pungent orange blossom flavour. A bit of wet stone minerality as well. It's not my style but it's very well made.

Waitrose

Jackson Estate MSB 2013 £9.95 or £13 if the offer has ended.

My favourite sb but so inconsistent that I often give up on it. At it's best Marlborough like blackcurrant with Sancerre like chalky/acorn hit on the end. Drink chilled. Chilling normally kills a sb but JE loves it.

Thanks for the recommendations

Of those I'll try the JE, it's a wine we used to enjoy but have ignored since a couple of really grim bottles of 'Stich', 2011 I think.

Have never tried enough Chilean Sauvignon to decide if it's for me and our local Co-Op is too small to have much of a choice.
