Lidl has acquired a selection of French wines to be sold from September onwards:

Have tasted them and will post soon, but they aren't in the stores until 4th Sept. I found their £9-£12 clarets more exciting than the £17-£39 ones. Probably because I can't remove my excitement about the price. Cheap date.

Errrrr - No.

Some bin end specials got in the way . . . . . :D

Tesco's fine and all gold medal clearance cases kinda cleared me out last week, and the week before I found store clearance of fine wines at 50% or more off. TBF, Lidl's is a national offer, and could not compete against small amounts of bin end specials on any terms.

I will check-out the Lidl offer eventually, their usual customers may not know the vintages and producers for french regional wines, the usual claret and rhone suspects.

For the Loire blanc and cru chablis offers, I wonder how well those Lidl bargains have been stored during the intervening period. Some caution for experienced palates should be observed.

Quote front page Article: Comte de Senneval Champagne Brut NV £9.99

The ticket says £12.99 but apparently it’s going to be £9.99 from 28/7/14.

Current till price today 17/09/2014 is £11.99. This champagne stock was substantial at the store I visited today. Given the positive review, I bought one to try. Sub £15 claret stocks were moving fast, or OOS

Those looking for Mel's pictured bargains will soon find out that wine lovers (may be, in your neck of the woods) could have picked some, not all, of the stocks of these already. I did find others that I favoured for a safe gamble, so made up a dozen, with an extra £1 off per bottle when buying any multiples of four French wines, wine carrier redemption  they say

I found the following wines and noting Mel's advice where they were available, I picked:

2 x Chateau Mauras 2010 Sauternes 50cl £6.99 (a useful size & a good vintage) not in the article.
1 x Graves 2011 Ch. Gale's £7.99 rouge, not in article.
2 x Ch. Haut Chaigneau Lalande de Pomerol 2009 £14.99 (I wanted the opulent vintage) only 2 left
3 x Mercurey 2012 rouge, that's pictured in the article.
1 x De Senneval, Champagne, also pictured
2 x Hautes Cotes de Beaune blanc - pictured
1 x Serabel, Vacqueyras '12 - recommended.

Sadly, the Montbazillac and Ch.Venus, Graves '12 were OOS, as well as the 'Pessac Leognan.

Quite pleased I paid a visit today, sorry to have missed some sub tenner bargains. Stores are not re-stocking, all the allocations are on the shop floor, I've checked with the manager.

Got a couple of the wine carafes and cork screws
The wine rack isn't even that bad, would be ideal for a student/young persons flat

I managed to resist buying any more wine - they had loads of Sauternes which was tempting (as it's pretty decent) but I'll probably hold off unless I see the vacqueyras or monbazillac somewhere
