Sainsbury in store have a very ordinary range of Sauvignons. But online they have nice ones that unlike Tescos online range can be ordered in singles. Villa Maria Reserve Wairau, Cloudy Bay, Mollet Antique Pouilly Fume which is stunning and Mollet's Sancerre Roc d'abbaye which is reputedly chardonnay like.
Problem is they don't list the vintage.
I went to a very large Sains with a fine wine section to see. . . . .
Mr Goose, I can help you with this, I hope.
Mollet's Antique Pouilly Fume is 2012, whilst Mollet' Sancerre Roc d'abbaye is 2013. The PF was £17 and the Sancerre was £16.
I would have reached for the Fume', but fascinated by your chardonnay comment, and also because I believe that '13 was more successful in the Loire, I picked the Mollet's Roc D'abbaye, the net price was £12 so I feel pretty happy with that, and loaded 3 into the basket.
Mr Shezza,
I was unable to find a deal like your 2009 Haut Batailley anywhere
The best QPR at Sainsbury for claret was the 2010 Château Barreyres, Haut Medoc CB, which for £9 net a bottle was good value, and jolly good for keeping up the quality level of quaffing claret in the house. These '09s and '10s are running low everywhere, so I grabbed the last 4.
Mr Medoc Mad
Potensac 2009 was buyable at £20.25 with discount, very large stocks, so I'll wait
Olivier 2003 cru classe de Graves (Pessac Leognan), was buyable at £22.50 but '03 was rather warm for inland Pessac Leognan which could be a bit baked, better further north in Margaux & particularly St Estephe, very large stocks as well, so we wait till next time - perhaps. I think Sains might be caught by this, so it is a regular check to see when they mark it down, and then take on double disco - otherwise it is a non starter.
