Gone is the drab, austere wine made by Highfield Estate and in comes this pungent capsicum filled wine by Yealands. No tomato leaf which is unusual for Yealands. In fact, there is no fruit at all. Just peppers. Nice and only £6 with the 25% off any 6 bottles.
Yeah, bought one as part of a boosting and discount bundle of offers to try, and to sample the vintage at this level.
Agree with Goose, good value and what you may have expected from budget MSB in previous years and did not receive ! Reminds me of 2007.
The background wallpaper is very typical - ripe gooseberry with some elegance, and it is clean and pale, indicating a good vintage for Marlborough. Pungency power and aroma in "general" is textbook stuff. Acidity is balanced.
I would add that I think this is best as a drink at one sitting MSB. TN date 01/12/13
If this '13 vintage sample is anything to go by, then the dimensional and single vineyard / climat wines at bigger prices could be exceptional. I wonder which of the valleys, and who in particular, made the most ethereal of styles in 2013 ?
We shall find out - eventually
