Can I recall a more succulent Guigal basic ? Possibly the most pleasurable Guigal CdR basic I have ever drunk !

In my view, this is a 90+ points wine just now. Classic GSM, with more going on.

On offer at the moment at Waitrose £8.24, and there was some stock of the '09 at my little store yesterday.
The charts will give the vintage 2010 a full marks 10 / 10 score whist the '09 is a 9 in the south across the range of the fine wines, and aimed particularly for CNdP buyers

I'm prefering this '09 over the 2007 ! It is a little more oppulent (less dry, but still as punchy on the finish) hedonistic even !
Almost as dark as a new world wine ! But more balanced, less tannic than the 2005 and more structure than the 2003.

A very good CdR indeed, Rhone pleasure does not get better than this at £8.24. Very accessible now, so if you find any on the 2009, stash a few in your cellar as well, and then drink-up by August 2015.

NB, the cork is not very stained, so this wine has been held back and matured in E Guigal's storage vessels - I think.

We are now onto the 2010 vintage :)

What a lovely wine this is. CdR basic has never been nicer than this (perhaps 2007 is an equal) I say this every time the rhone vintages are on the top, the truth of the matter is that wine making skills are following the vintages, so even in a lack lustre year, the good producers can pull something out of the bag. For this wine, the wonderful 10 out of 10 vintage, and Guigal know how to capture that magic.

Quite dark, lots of lift from ripe grenache, lovely balance, not drying at all. The perfect quaffer for southern Rhone lovers.

Dunc,

Good to hear the 2010 drinking well.
I picked up 2 bottles from a supermarche in Ambazac a few weeks back for 7.90euros.
£8.24 is still pretty good though, I wonder if these will be added to the discount / promo coming up soon ?

Richard

Yes, thank you also for the reminder. Waitrose offer = £8.24 per bottle if buying six wines until midnight today 5/11/2013.

I am not sure why Majestic have decided that the wine starts off (before discount) at a £ pound more than Waitrose ?

If Majestic have any of the vintage 2009 left in store, ask for that if you are going for immediate drinking. The '09 does not need beef  , is a little more succulent, with an easy fine grained tannin profile. The ten is not quite ready.
