Tesco co-buy site is now offering Marques de Riscal Gran Reserva 2004
Usually £30 per bottle, the co-buy offers up to 33% off allowing you to purchase a case of 6 for £20 per bottle:

A decent saving for a excellent producer on an excellent vintage.... I'm very tempted to have a go

So am I Shez, so am I.

A excellent producer and a superb vintage. I like Riscal's style of winemaking, very elegant with time.

The more people who get involved with the Group-on the more the price could fall. But..... They have only 25 half cases to offer (150 bottles). So I'm wondering how this deal will pan out.

This is not better than some of the Maj deals I have reported though, Conde Valdemar GR 1989 and the 1994 both very lovely, and £4-5 less. How good is that MdR GR 2004 ? I have to guage this thing. How do we play this one ?

BTW -I was an idiot, we were twerps not to have gone back for the other box of Taylors Pass. I served the wine to an old wine buddy for afternoon tea on Sunday (4 hours late lunch  ). He was gob smacked with the sheer beauty of the texture ! The wine has a great flavour as well ...................don't you know....

There are already 20 co buyers for the riscal GR so it's hit the minimum price of £120 for the case
So we don't have much time left to decide....
Like you say, there have been some other very good Rioja GR offers othe past
This seems to be well rated with 2001 gaining RP 93pt score, not sure about 2004 score but as you know, vintage conditions were on par.
My Rioja stocks are quite high at the moment, Although mainly reservas and some crianzas so hence my reason for being unsure about this offer
However, it doesn't seem to be less than £30 anywhere else on the web.

Ha, that's a shame about the Taylor's Pass
Good to hear its got another double thumbs up
Better that we at least bought some than none at all (cough-Goose-cough)

Maybe I'll check out in store stock of GR Valdemar at the week-end as a consollation. And make a small saving on wonderful rioja. I'll let you know. At £20, I'll probably pass on the MdR - ........ :?

Job to do.....finding-out about the decent producers of MSB, on the 2012 vintage. I will keep you posted if I see any Astrolabe, St Clair '12 offers. Viog reviews tipped-us-off when he said the '12 would be the one at the higher level. His folks live in NZ. My message is don't buy any MSB '11's from anywhere, regardless.
For normal everyday, VM cellar S 2012 is a good'un, as ya know

Indeed, 2012 has proved to be a beaut of a vintage for MSB
I agree that it's better to skip 2011 and only buy 2012 now
However 2013 is meant to be a stunning vintage with a lot of producers hailing it as one of the best ever
So maybe no need to rush out to buy 2013 stocks just yet...

Cheers Shez, MSB '13 is not to be missed, It will be a good while yet, and in the new year before the half decent ones are released, at Least this time next year, falling back on twelve discounted clearance means that one is getting a good and proper style.
I see Laithwaite and many others trying to clear the '11's in a mixed case sprinkled with '12's at the mo ! Most retailers claiming hilarious discounts on trumped up ludicrous prices.
As proof, I know, so do you, that JE'11 drinks like a Jif lemon squeezy, mind you, the bottom of the pile were battery acid & gum numbing, so eleven avoidance is the message. They ain't improving.

Image

Worth noting is that Marks are moving the 2009 Haut Medoc and Medoc clarets again, discounted, two case deals, as well as free delivery over a ton. M&S appears to be beating all others for proper PC claret at the price at the mo. Avoid cheap '11 claret.

Thanks Dunc, I'll try and check out the M&S claret - I've been on the look out for decent value Bordeaux
I've yet to use Laithwaites but they seem to have some decent stock

Mark & Spencer - double discount on 2 case offer deals next 3 days only - ends, Sunday midnight.

Thanks Dunc, I'll try and check out the M&S claret
Chaps many thanks for posting this offer

I think we are sorted then.

Le Beyan, Haut Med '09 = £6.29
Bellegrave, Medoc '09 = £6.29
and to reduce delivery to 19p a bottle
J Moreau & fils, Chablis '10 = £7.31
I like the chablis vintage 2010 characteristics, so lets see if the Moreau sons made a decent fist of it.

There is a free delivery M&S voucher code somewhere ? Could not locate it at the check-out - no bother

Had to be done, Good. cheers for now

Dunc, the free delivery code is given on the site when you look at the delivery option section
I think its something like FREENDAY when you select nominated delivery date so saves you £5

You're already aware of the quality of the Beyan, I hope the Bellegrave follows suit

Rich was saying that he bought the MdR GR. Hope you enjoy that too

Shez, thanks for highlighting the Bellegrave ealier today: A good and well written review, a very classic claret mix, and vintage 2009 - All three attributes met for a good Medoc.

When Rich said one left on his 2nd post, I realized then, that he'd shelled out for the Marques de Riscal Gran Reserva 2004. Rich keeps an illustrious cellar, for sure; the better the wine, the bigger the cobwebs...............He should tip his hat to you sometime :)

Rich, leave a TN here, when you get to it,

cheers Shez.

Hey Richard,
Have you got your code for the MdR yet ? You get triple clubcard points (in the original price) if you put your order through by 30th Sept.
