Of the 2012 vintage: Terrific varietal intensity, but beautifully modulated so that it comes singing rather than shouting. Ripe green fruit and nettle freshness, a touch of lime zest, supple texture and long, refreshing, briny finish.

Agreed, though the briny finish is not totally understood, certainly not girly, nor tarty. The finish for me is, green herb lemon verbena, ferns and flint and is long. Very herby, tomato leaf & lemon grass middle, by comparison to Vavasour Awatere. Quite full in style with a mango, cantaloupe melon nose on 1st opening. The balanced acidity married to the depth of flavour is most welcome.

I like this wine, which has a distinctive and complex flavour profile, a conversation point, one to savour, and powerful and textured enough to have as a dinner party vegetarian (not fish in my opinion) starter.

I will keep a few of these back - VM say up to 3 years, so 4 or more in a white wine cooler.

At the offer price, a for sure.

I'm on my third evening with the same bottle. The herby notes have all but expired now, and the flavour is a very grown-up version of the Vavasour 2009, less floral, more terroir driven tropical fruit.
Such is the depth of fruit and length, one can sip this wine and savour the lovelyness of it.
Only recently eclipsed this year by *Astrolabe Kekerengu Coast 2009, that I had in the wine cooler until July 13, and only because the AKC '09 had an ethereal lightness and mountain waterfall flintyness that is so incredibly rare.

The wine goes into my gallery for length and full figured beauty now. Wonderful drinking value.

* I'm not doing a TN for the Astrolabe Kekerengu because I can't nail down the wonder of the wine on the palate.

The Misses has to be observed ! TBH, I have good stocks. Also, I know the other box will have gone at Tesco now, and I tipped a wine lover on Saturday afternoon as a very big favour. Tesco were changing the shelf price when I left to go to the till.

We both, the Misses and I shelled out a large amount over this last week. I need to keep some sort of control, and the nicest things come in smaller quantities. I'm sure you understand this kind of balance in a marriage - we do.
