During the make-over, which will take about 2 hours, the Forum will be unavailable and may throw its toys out of the pram for a short while afterwards. Normal service - only "better" - will then resume.

Don't expect improvements as such. We're just moving up to modern times from 2003. You may not notice the difference. I'm guessing it hasn't happened yet.

Done. Comments please. Not a re-design, just bringing the Forum up to date as it was previously v2003.

I have a fondness for the old one.

Do I want to use different font colour?

Its a slippery slope, today rainbow fonts, tomorrow we're using words like pungent & lush.

Yeah, same here. If it ain't bust, don't fix it.

No chance of going back, I suppose ?

The old page layout was more efficient, I'm using a 22" screen, and the current pages are double spacing word lines, with a lot of empty space. More scrolling and the subject line is a soft and small red font as you scroll down , and a whopping underlined strap line at the top of the form that scrolls out of view. If freeze panes was working on the top of the form for the top four rows, I suppose that could be more funky.

Ba will be pleased, no more that 60 thousand characters are allowed

The 2003 PHP layout appeared to be more business like from this arm chair. I suppose if you want colouring books, you have to set out on the kitchen table, the paintbox and water for the grand children. I like rainbows.

Mel, the forum spell checker is also set for American English, that will surely upset Ba as well.

Just saying - fondness for the mature, is spot on.

I do like the 'top' and 'profile' links.
However, overall I really do prefer the old layout and formats.

This is a bit too much in your face. At least there is no loud muzak and flashing lights.

GOM

Im guessing the changes were necessary to allow Google analytics and other such services.

You now have to log in to quote a member, previously you could hit the quote button and log-in with one hit. Overall, no complaints from me.

Same applies to editing, one can't always remember the spelling of a wine, or the correct spelling of a region. So a quick scan later, and corrections could be made swiftly. At the moment Bacchus and [Google bot] are logged in. I logged in hiding my online status, which is a bit cheeky. and sly  I wonder if a Mozilla firefox bot says it's online ?

Overall, as long as google analytics don't get to know me - with all those daft shopping pop-up suggestions, I'm happy to have a forum that we can use easily. Echo GK's opinion, apart from missing features that Ba has identified, (which Mel must be aware of) should come back fairly soon. Yeah, no probs.

Normal service is resumed.
