Shezza,

Hi, nice friendly gathering with some other Musar fans !!

2001 young puppy fresh acidic good fruit will turn out a lovely typical Musar in 5+ years.

1993 deep fruit spice good depth just to fruity for me would not say this was a Musar if served blind.

1991 Was looking forward to this as I have a few, this bottle was weird one chap had a bottle 2 weeks ago and said this was not showing the true Musar colours !! Beef aged Bordeaux nose, tasted better than the nose you would have guessed this was the oldest wine of the night. brown in colour white edge. cedar bramble fresh tannins still present. I hope my bottles are better than this one.

1985 Floral sweet rosehip nose, brown orange rim
Cherry spice warmth nice and fresh not heavy on the palate great length more sweetness coming through with time in the glass.
Beautifully balanced wine top wine of the night just for me over the 1981.

1981 Floral sweetness again on the nose, silky red currant zip touch of spice cedar coming through good depth and length and balance.

1975 Mahogany in colour, caramel nose with that bordeaux aged edge, light fresh zip of cherry dry finish. only had a small pour and notes are not complete. I did like this though, would I buy a bottle at £175.00 = no.

Top three wines for the group were
1985
1993
1981

My top three would be
1985
1981
1975.

Regards
Richard

Rich, Glad you had a great Musar night.

Glad also, that you had some good vintages that turned out as you hoped.

That dodgy 1991 sounds like it was cooked in its ealier days ! Did the owner know the wine's provenance from release ?
Brown with a white rim, that sounds like the "separating out of the substance" The wine was stood up for the pre-evening hours, ofcourse, which may have emphasized that colourless rim ? I've have seen this sort of thing once before on an old St Emilion. The fruit had gone lacey, looking through the glass, as well as feel in the mouth. At the time, the deterioration was put down to - a high storage temperataure problem, and then later, returned to the cool by the current owner for a number of years.

In the ole days, buying from an overly warm wine merchant or off Licence was quite a risk for a fine wine.

Was a parcel of the 1991 release held-up in a war zone border ambush ? In the fierce heat !

Rich, there are no other complaints on cellar tracker for the 91, I'm sure your bottles will be fine, you could try one though, just to make sure  There was one CT guy who said the wine was already passed the "plateau".

Dunc, storage is fine and he buys in by the case direct.
He had some 1966 as well !!

I guess its just one of those dodgy corks ??
Just need a few like minded people to drink any of my Musar`s !!

just added some more 98 and 99 plus the sale at Ocado on the 2005 vintage.
starting to get a nice line up now.
