ARA single vineyard Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

This is on offer at Waitrose at the mo, full price £9.99

Not the Composite or Pathway  No compost this time.

Fruit, very 2011, really quite edgy. Dry and tangy, loads of lime in the middle and grapefruit on the finish. Better when warmed up, as a bit restrained when cold. Acicidy is too high to my way of thinking. If that acidity was reduced, this wine would be more elegant.

The Limey acidity great with scollops, plaice and white fish. I could see this being quite interesting with plaice (not cod) fish and chips.

£6.66 is OK for this. Don't buy if you have to have a MSB anything sweeter than Villa Maria cellar selection.

The acidity can / could for some folks, get rather tiring as an aperatif. Opinion on this one is likely to be quite divided.

Pity about the A, loads of promise, nice wall paper feel and style to the label

Opinion is divided on this one

The wine is better balanced the next day, and when served a little warmer than is usual.

£6.66 is a good offer price for this wine. The wine will be good with various starters, work on the basis, that the starter will be enhanced with a lime flavour. For me, at this time, this ARA is the most successful so far.

That sums it up perfectly Duncan.

I like the slight acidity, we had a bottle on Saturday with halibut/brown shrimp butter and it was a very good match.

Certainly one of the better offers and will get a box on our delivery this week.

Glad you like, I'm going back for some more. The last glass of the bottle was very refreshing :)

2012: tried this after the VM Cellar Selection
Picked up slightly more vegetal notes and acidity was a little more noticeable. That said, it still performed pretty well and I have half a bottle left to try today
For £6.66 I'm happy with this

Day 2 and the acidity had settled down a bit. It felt more rounded but still not near the VM CS in terms of flavour profile and balance
This is fine for sunshine glugging though. Guess I'd score it around 87 and the VM gets a 92 for now

That observation of yours is right Shez. Just as I would have marked the wine - well maybe an 84, cos to get balance and a deeper and more interesting flavour profile that the VM CS achieves, takes some doing.

LFE 12
The Luis Felipe Edwards SB 2012 Gran reserva (GR designation is meaningless) , marked by Mel as 14.88 points. You may remember, I bought one in the Tesco bin-end bonanza to try. The LFE is a 78 points - The Peapody & Elder business is OK, then the Fairy Liquid comes on quite strong. Very one dimensional. Very Flashy label, heavy big wide burgundy bottle. But best avoided, even at £4.49.

LFE 12
This LFE improves the next day. Mangetoot flavour is better, Elder/laurel, green nut kernel end is more resolved and the Soapyness is not so bad. Worth £4.49, but only if you remember not to drink the wine after opening it
Splosh around in a carafe for an hour or two, if you happenned to buy this on the bin end bonaza.
