Dunc,

Still fancy the Musar or RWT but noticed I have these that need drinking but would prefer a fellow wine nut to share though, I am sure they would still deliver something worth sharing ??

1982 Château Brane-Cantenac
1981 Château Brane-Cantenac

What have you got lined up ?? are you at home or with family ??

Off the top of my head Rich, I'd risk the '81 with a roast, the rich lunch will hide the fading fruit and disappearing acidity. If it is absolutely gone to a dry and weird lacy substance, the sink is your friend, and you have the wonderful '82 to fall back on.

We know that the '82 will have just about held up. Your cellar is in very good conditions, It must be, I'd say, or you would have dealt with all your old growths by now. I have drunk lesser '82's at 20 years, and they have been good. 30 years is a big ask for anything other than the most structured and robust vintages. '81 is not one of those.

Please open one of them Rich ! If only for the sake of folks who have never had the possibility of trying them. Or at the very least, invite a claret nutter over on Boxing day

For me Rich, I've settled on a 2003 Listrac. Fourcas Hosten will be rich dark & sweet ripe, (slightly over baked fruit according to wine Profs) sufficiient tannic structure, and the acidity at Fourcas should carry it off with a barbie marinated chicken cooked in the bag for succulence.

My family will be here plus grand children. Three of us will devour the chicken and claret until only bones and sediment remain on the table  .

For "Heaven's Sake" open that Brane Cantenac - Good luck with it, those soft corks could be tricky to extract in one, get the longest screw you have - I'm wishing you megga luck with the wine condition.

Dunc,

Will add to my short list for the 28th when a serious wine friend is coming for a meal.
Had these marked down though,

Clerc Milon 02,
Haut Bages Lib 88,
Gloria 01,
Lagrange 96,'
Will report back on the 81 or 82.

You are a naughty boy Rich :? To my way of thinking - That Bages Liberal should have been drunk and enjoyed a good while back. Perhaps this HBL 88 should be taken as a matter of urgency on Christmas lunch - Best of Luck.

Totally agree, I have to much old stuff kicking around and can not drink on my own.
I prefer to drink good wine with other like minded people.
Had a Leoville Barton 1981 a year or two back which was stunning, none left now though so hoping the other 81 might be decent.

Front door is always open to any wine nuts for a decent red or white, fizz is not my strong area though.
Report back on the 03 as I basically skipped this vintage and bought 04 instead, so would be interested how its developed.

Will do.

skipped this vintage and bought 04 instead

Many wine writers told you to do that ? Yeah, for enjoyable drinking, big mistake at CB & 5th growth level. Many '04s have turned-out to be indifferent at CB level, may last for years, but many are a bit austere or just plain dull. Of course, one should have drunk a lot of 03's by now, but the structured ones are still holding.

Sorry, this is not a claret forum, I'll butt-out now. Cheers

Did you know that that 'claret' has two anagrams...

Rectal Cartel

Dunc,

Hi, not had many 04 yet but the few I have had this year have been good.
Still a little early for my taste buds though.

Ah ha ! A 4 letter clue for rather particular, street vernacular.

Well now, Horace Rumpole relied on chateau Thames Embankment most nights to keep him sharp. Court adjourns at 4:00 pm ! One needs time to think.

Cartel - Yeah, Ok, that pretty much sums up the class system ?

The other one - Huh. Hey Rich, Ba opens the door again for more claret sessions

Rich, everyone has spent their budgets on the 09's and the big ones are falling, time is right to score the unsung 10's. You'll have to get out of George Osborne's domain though, Car Boot Purchase

Dunc,

I fancy your 2 M&S LB wines you posted about on the TN section.
Will wait for a sale or check prices over Christmas.

09 and 10 are to expensive for me to buy in cases, had a few 09 reds which have been very forward and well balanced though.
Its just about picking up at the right price, another 6 months should see prices ease off I reckon as merchants try to free up room ??
