If your overall favourite SB is an MSB then that is the end of the matter - just post that one. If it is is any other SB then post that one and then your Favourite MSB as well.

G - It's a damn hard question; There have been quite a few beautiful SBs and MSBs.

Ok, this is a one off ** when I had much more dosh and when small quantities of fine wines were priced for ordinary wine loving folks in Europe (7000 cases). I acquired a couple of these from a merchant with cash flow problems - Wizard Wine Warehouse

.... and then I'll get back to the question when I've sifted them all out in my mind. QPR has an enjoyment factor that adds to pleasure

** Chateau La Louviere 1990. But that has 12-15% Sem added and very discrete oak for more structure. So it is clearly cheating the Q.

JM Reverdy's Domaine Des Cottereaux Sancerre '07 - ethereal purity, wild flowers and cleansing mineral daintyness.

Arnaud De Lassalle Pouilly Fume' '05 amazing concentration, lush pineapple with a mineral finish - not typical as a super ripe vintage adds tropical dimension, acidity still good. Exceptional for the price.


Jackson Estate '07 - Unbelievable class in a glass - Unmatched QPR
VM Clifford Bay '08 - The best sancerre on steroids - remarkable stuff, the best '08 MSB I've had.
Vavasour '09 truly worthy of the Decanter gold for QPR. Everything I love in a fresh MSB.
VM Wairau Reserve '10 The richness of this ten, is damn hard to beat

Of the exotic MSBs. I need to be able to afford more of them to really answer this Q. properly.

SC Oh block 6 2007 is right up there
SC Oh block 6 2009 is even more dimensional with tangerine added to the tropical fruits.

Sorry G, I just can't narrow them down. In the last 5-6 years, the flavours and the quality of the well made sauvignon blanc wines has come on in leaps and bounds. Vintage characteristics at this level for the quality producers is key now to ultimate satisfaction.

If I hadn't already tried the 2010 VM WR I would've been put off by tasting notes that included the words rich and ful flavoured as to me these terms usually mean rich in body. The wine though was gorgeous with a really dense concentrated flavour.

The SC PB 06 still edges it for me though........

I popped a bottle of JE'10 at cellar temperature last night, my dear Misses loved it. At fridge temperature its dimension is cloaked. I just hope it is still fine for the finish this evening.

The vintage character for JE'10 is another astonishing SB that in my opinion is at its most pleasurable when a little warmer than is fashionable, at one sitting.

When I next have an occasion for SCPB oh block 6 2009, I'll report back on this thread.

G, the JE10 was full of fruit salad character during the Olympic Closing ceremony. It never went back into the fridge after 9:00 pm. For me....the JE'10 is in a very similar guise to VMWR 2010 now.

As for the wines, I have known a few well heeled wine lovers. So many of the exotic ones were introduced to me as specials during a dinner / supper evening. Dark horse ? No, not really. Generous friends ! Yes, most certainly.

Half of the finest wines I have enjoyed, I have not bought. It is only since I have logged in here that I have made a half decent fist of the bargains.

My Clayridge was a great bargain. Came in an introductory 'half-price' case from Cadmans. 6R + 6W.

Some other good stuff in there including a 2005 Pascal & Nicolas Sancerre. That was also most excellent.

Makes a change from the half price case offers of today. 6 bottles of £3.99 pinot grigio for only £5.99 and 6 bottles of watered down £3.99 claret for the same lovely nice one time only special price of £5.99.

Though as genuine 'half-price' as you'll find, this was not cheap. [Say] 180 quidsworth for £90.

Also had a proper-job Soave Classico, a very pleasant MSR Riesling, 2 different 'crus' Beaujolais a Rioja Res. and a GSM monster.

All in all very good VfM but have not bought since as full whack is too much for me.
