Returning to the topic.

Goldwater - Wairau Valley '10 from Majestic wine £7.99 Easter offers

As Tribs says .....The 3rd release of Golwater '10 is more grapefruit pith, a little less exotic, less pungency and with a slightly stronger, less dimenional flavour. The fruit is a bit different - later picking, lower bunches of fruit, (not 1st pass in the vineyard maybe ? ) It is not aging - otherwise our earlier stock would confirm the differences. Tibs has the cooler, so slightly less evolution than here.

It is still a MSB wine that I particularly enjoy, But - it does not have the lift, that delicacy of the 2nd batch, and the high notes of the earlier releases. I'm learning more about MSB, and with the less industrial producers, the wines that we have almost always prefered, one has to accept that there will inevitably be minor changes from earlier or with later releases.

Consistency though, and skill is remarkable these days in this high tech environment. But there is only so much that a producer can achieve at this price point.

Out of the three batches, I think I found the 2nd to be the most memorable.

I'm not objecting to the pith - No Star, but given UK tax, logistics and VAT, this wine still gets a good from me :qofgoodvalue:

edit this evening - Goldwater pith reducing, some box wood / white hawthorne flowers , a tiny sprinkle of orange zest - Nice. I am happy enough with this :) £4 per night is Ok these days.

I was trying to decide which Goldwater to use in CT to register my recent purchase of 2011
The bottle image used there completely differs to the bottle from Maj in both bottle shape and label. There isn't even a similar logo on to be noticed between the 2 labels

Had a search around and first found http://www.goldwaterwine.com/
No info at all! Just a front page and that's it

Is what we know above the same as this: http://www.goldieroom.co.nz/ourstory.html ?
If so, why produce 2 completely different labels?

I think that the bottle & label were reconfigured 2009/10, the straight bottle going out of favour.

Dont understand your problem Shez. Look-up Golwater on an NZ wine store

Shez, the Goldwater bottle shape for '09 and vintage 2010 are in a wide bottom burgundy shape.

Heavier glass and larger sediment dimple in the base. Similar shape and weight to Burgundy grand cru style bottles.

Use the picture and label on the Majesic site for CT - Why not ?

Yeah. I know new bottle and have uploaded bottle images on CT in the past
Was just making sure there wasn't somehow 2 Goldwater producers
I wasn't familiar with the Pre 2010 and the difference in labels was the biggest part of the uncertainty
