Taxman turns on wine drinkers...

Quote:
Taxation revenues from wine are in line to rise by more than half over the next six years, according to OBR.

Indeed, I posted a Winners and Losers thread on Wednesday after the chancellor's Autumn Statement - but then deleted it;

Why...Cos it's such a wretched downer.

The OBR say that we will have to find an extra £1.8 billion at the end of the next 4 years. Wine drinkers are steady tax payers, whilst beer and heavy spirit consumers may fall over prematurely during their lifetimes.

These people who specialize in hidden taxes to finance many rediculous government projects are total B*******. If that sounds like Jeremy - sorry.

Look at the billions wasted on public sector computerisation, leading to total project failures: I'd rather pay extra to support pensions for Doctors and Nurses, that sink billions into buying fictitious real estate in the middle of the Sahara, or Salt Lake or any of the other exponentially geared losses in hyped financial instruments.

It makes Ya :twisted:

My homebrew ale is steadily becoming my 'everyday' drink of choice. I now ask family members to get me the kits for birthdays/gifts, this keeps my own cost down considerably and I end up with something I actually want :wink:

I'll always enjoy drinking wine and port, cant see that changing but I've noticed I drink allot less and have bought very little this year. I'll stock up in the New Year sales and grab the odd bargain throughout the year (I find it difficult to resist those bargains!!) but the Treasury will be getting much less out of me in future.

Some light reading for bedtime.
