Yep, and more on the way . Can't handle that SC stuff. This New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, Gold and Silver Medal winner for under £6 a bottle is a fantastic deal.

Decanter Silver Medal Winner 2008
and IWC Gold Medal Winner 2008.

Turning into a day 1 wine now, if cold enough. Vav still wins by a length.

Vavasour wins ok.

The '10 is coming round just fine by me. The nine is more tropical, but that is down to many factors.

Ba - glad you got shot of Badcop from this front page, that guy was pretty damn dull.

Mel - where is your delete button ?

Yep, the gorgeous passion fruit flavour is apparent right from opening. Not much pith now though. The nose has opened up too. I can smell this when I walk into the kitchen where there is a half drunk glass sitting on the counter

Shame there is none left at maj, as this is lovely and great value. Thankfully I've still got a few.

Little pith, but grapefruit is evident. Like it. Good value.

I bought 6 more for £8.99 = nearly £54.
Very very pale, very light in texture and now acidity is in harmony with the depth of fruit.

It is now September, and I have to say the wine is still a beauty for the more restrained, delicate, & pale style. Furthermore, serving at the 13C temperature (my cellar temp last night), the wine exhibits the classic pungency, which flows from the glass, and passion fruit and lime flavours which seem to be the attributes, and the "saving grace" for the 2010 vintage at this price level.

I am very happy with this wine, even though it is £2 more than in July 2011. Still good QRR and satisfying

It is a mistake IMHO, to serve this wine too cool. To do so, brings an over emphasis of the grapefruit pith and full-on standard linear gooseberry, this over chilling kills off some of the stone minerality and hardens up the mouth feel.

I think Goldwater made a good fist of the difficult 2010 fruit because it has agility, yet not too much acidity. Food choices will be more tricky though, as the texture of the wine is so light.

I have some SC VC on order at £7.11. I remember Goldwater 2010 as being very similar to the 06 VC. Light bodied but pungently flavoured with lots of passion fruit ( or blackcurrant leaf to me ). The VC had some green pepper on the end so was better but only just. In fact, it wasn't until I stumbled across the Pioneer blocks 6 and 19 that the SC VC 2006 lost top billing in my all time fav sb.

I have a feeling from the tasting notes for the 2010 VC that it will be sweeter than it used to be.

Cheers G.

Yep, I'm with you on this, and you understood my TN very well. It is difficult to pin down what one finds rather desirable with these very pale and light textured MSBs - you cant find an MSB which is less oily than this !
It may just be the currant bud pungency, minerality and general balance overall, that is the difference. No anoying and silly tongue spritz feel on this now.

G - please say how you find the Vicars Choice 2010. At £7.11, that is a cracking price for a half decent MSB now. I sincerely hope for you, that it is not sweetened-up for the masses. Why should it be ?

My palate can hardly distinguish orangeade from ginger beer these days, so we'll have to get Goose off that fence of his...

I will open one and report within hours of arrival. I will put them all in the fridge as Saint Clair sb's do need their lovely thiols kept chilly.

Also, the Saint Clair Estate wine sold by Majestic was very phenolic and harsh so I will open each bottle well in advance to soften and pithy phenols.

Thiols and phenols. I'm such a geek.

There's an "r" in Greek.

P.S. Treated myself to a Vav. on Monday. D1 + 2 tasted like Vichy water. Glimmer on d3, know it's MSB.
