This has just appeared in my local Co-Op. Has anyone tried it?

Hello Tim

Yes, Sainsbury had it briefly last summer.

I wasn't impressed, it had an odd vanilla/custard like aftertaste and was quite full bodied by Marlborough standards.

But this may be a new vintage so perhaps worth trying again at a fiver.

Thanks. I have just picked up a bottle for the weekend. I will let you know what I make of it. Tim

Had it yesterday. Very big, full and long for a Sauvignon. Masses of gooseberry flavour, with lime zest I think. A little OTT as an aperitif, but later went very well with after-dinner Pecorino. Didn't get custard, but there was a creaminess on the aftertaste.

I 'm putting some in the cellar.

It was Spy Mountain that Sainsbury had last summer. Spy Mountain is the lesser of the two sauvignon blancs made by Spy Valley.

Spy Valley has a good reputation but i've not tried it.

The reason I gave the tasting note for Spy Mountain was that Mel has Spy Mountain listed at £4.99 in the list of current offers at the Co Op so I just assumed that it was Spy Mountain that you meant.

My mistake..apologies and i'm glad I didn't put you off :D

I tried the Co-op Spy Mountain SB yesterday and was favourably impressed. Oodles of zesty gooseberry/lime flavours that I seek but seldom find in cheaper bottles. It delivers a real mouthful of SB pleasure. Will definitely stock up with some more at £4.99 before the present deal ends tomorrow.
