Pontac,

Thats but that plan to waste !! will still leave them though as its more fun trying them in say 3/4 years time as the first was so horrific I cant even look at the label again as it was so scary.

Shezza,

I was spoilt over Christmas with some lovely German and Austrian whites along with some nice aged Medoc !!

Regards
Richard

Update from Dec 2009.

Opened a bottle last night, much better than the one opened at 18 months ago.

Crunchy green apple, yellow tinge with a warm spice finish.
A straight forward two dimensional wine, would not buy again but happy to finish the bottle off tonight.

Indicates that the original bottle was faulty - maybe the screwcap had got bashed and the seal damaged.

Yes must agree !! it explains my first note.
Not sure what the fault would have been, certainly not oxidised.

I had one of these too back then. I think it was the 2007, which is important because as previously mentioned the blend changes every year, so the wine can be quite different from vintage to vintage. I must admit, for the price I thought it was cracking value. Alas, I have not seen it since.

This from maker's site. I only had the '08 and quite enjoyed it.

Blending our Noon Gun each year is a like trying to paint a serene landscape with brightly coloured paint. Each component has been so carefully fermented and cared for that each has it’s own wonderful, attention-demanding character. Somehow we have to coax these spirited, individualistic expressions of the land into team players.

Perhaps this illustrates Majestic's buyer's clout. I'd definitely buy again if it was under a fiver.

After BJ sold out to Constellation they tried upping the price of Noon Gun.

It always (IMO) over-delivered at its original price point -- it was an entry point wine for Flagstone -- but now? I guess I remember the original price, got through cases at wine tastings....

For the 06's & 07's Not for me - IS there is a market somewhere for liquidised oak and indifferent fruit in a white wine ? Lord knows. One thing for sure in my book, the indifferent fruit in a white, generally dies before the oak. So hanging on is questionable.

Pontac - That was my view as well at the clearance tasting. I'm damn glad I listenned to you and Wizzy. For the upscale reds, Mary le Bow was the Prince, and in an entirely different league at their clearance. It was not on the tasting table when they were clearing the £3.99 / £4.99 white and red wines

I found out from you two.
